Here is the vision: Spikes 22lr upper Any lower w parts kit slidefire stock 22lr 'over9000' Beta Mag Question 1: Think you can still get enough recoil to use the slidefire? Question 2: Does anything that would resemble a 22lr beta mag actually exist for the AR platform? Question 3: Does 22lr CCI cycle correctly in a spikes upper? Question 4: Do you think this would be a fun build worth the effort?

Question 4: Do you think this would be a fun build worth the effort? 1. Yes, with the right trigger and comp. Single stage 2# or 3# trigger, and a comp that puts all blast in the forward direction. 2. Yes. There are 100+ round mags out there. They were made for the American 180 and modified to work with the AR15. 3. Yes. Especially the MiniMags. 4. Yes. Yes (once you got any bugs fixed) ETA: Only problem I can see, is that the heavy-ass magazine might prevent the slidefire from working correctly. |

Question 4: Do you think this would be a fun build worth the effort? 1. You must use a light trigger with short reset, it's has been done but seems easier with all polymer upper/lower like 15-22. 2. Black Dog Machine has a 50 round drum and S&W 15-22 can use pro mag 35 round mag. 3. All depends on setup, most 22 rimfire with slidefire stocks work best with HV like CCI Tactical. 4. A friend has a 15-22 set up with slidefire. It takes a special technique to shoot long burst. I'm strange every full auto I shot was more about shooting short controlled burst of 2 - 3 rounds. I have hardly seen any 22 rimfire ammo for sale in the last 5 months so unless you have a stash of 22 rimfire you may not be able to do many mag dumps. Really depends on your priorities, it is kind of fun just not worth it to me. |

Quoted: Sounds like a waste of ammo to me. 22lr with a slide fire is hit or miss to work it will need a light trigger and the whole slide fire is ![]() A light trigger can easily be done... But why is slidefire ?22lr was chosen for cost, and it's an easier round to control while firing in rapid succession

1. Yes, with the right trigger and comp. Single stage 2# or 3# trigger, and a comp that puts all blast in the forward direction. what a damn good idea. i initially thought of building with a polymer lower to keep the cost down...but am a little hesitant putting a slidefire on a polymer as it just appears to me to be an abusive product to the lower.

My ST-22 upper is quite possibly my favorite to shoot. It's light, quiet, and handles like a full size AR for pennies a shot.
For the rest of your stuff? That's up to you. CCI MiniMags work great in my upper, not sure about Standard Velocity as I run that in longer barrels. An AR-15/22LR is a helluva lot of fun, and I recommend anyone who loves shooting their AR have a 22LR upper (conversion bolts are OK, but they are a gateway drug). |
