As with most rimfires, i would guess you should not do this with a S&W 22. Was watching a video on trig adjustment and he was dryfiring some to get the feel you want. Another guy was cleaning after firing 2500 rds, sure hope mine will be that trouble free. Any help on any good ammo other than that rec in the manuel with the gun.

CCI AR Tactical was designed specifically for the M&P 15/22. CCI Velocitor's are another one to look at.

Are you not supposed to dry fire a 15-22?

I've dry fired mine about 10 times..

I never dry fire any rimfire... Without a rim to fall on, your just hitting the edge of the chamber.

Snap caps are cheap!

Just make sure you buy "Snap Caps", not "Function Test Dummy Rounds".

There is a difference....

On some rimfires yes, but mostly the older models.

This can't happen on the 15-22. The firing pin never protrudes past the bolt face.

I second cci AR Tactical, I have a slide fire on mine and AR is the most reliable with it.

All I had was some Win Wildcat 40 gr. Lubed it a little, shot 4 rds @ 20 yds, made a 2 in adj both up and to the right, right on the 1 in poster I was using. Ran 2 mags without a hitch on some steel plates I have. S&W did not recomend this ammo but I worked great for me.
