Will it work reliably or do you need a 4 lbs one?

I have a new one- it would not set of the 22lr. It did however set off 9mm and 223 like nothing.
So I set up another lower with the yellow trigger spring, polished the trigger area's up and a
red hammer spring- JP- Now the thing shoots fine. I have put over 1,000 bulk pack through
with not one FTF!!

I have a used Timney in my Slide Fire build
The Barrel and FF tube are TACCOM, the receiver is Spikes, and it sports a Primary Arms RDS in a ARMS mount.
The trigger works great with this setup. I went through a good amount of rounds

In  my opinion, the best trigger for the AR .22 Platform is the JARD adjustable trigger.Nearly 1/2 the price of the Timney and actually works better in the AR .22's.
Just my 2 cents worth..I put the JARD in my Colt/Umarex AR .22 and my S&W M&P AR .22 with excellent results. Also, the 3 lb trigger, in my experience works the best..2 lb is way too light and 4 lb is to heavy, again, my opinion only
For Slide Fire Users: The JARD is Definitely the better trigger..the 3lb works great, and can be adjusted for incredible reset times and canbe fine tuned to the Slide Fire..I have tried Timneys, American Trigger Co. Gold Triggers, and the JARD
and ONLY the JARD worked flawlessly with the Slide Fire on a .22LR AR platform.

I use a 4 lb Timney because that's what's on my 5.56 lower.  Also use a Accuracy Speaks trigger on another lower and have used the Rock River Arms match trigger.  I've said it before - I've been really lucky that almost all, if not all, my conversions work with these triggers.  Ciener, Kuehl upper, Spike's, Air Force, 261, DPMS, Colt, KKF upper, etc. - so far so good.

YMMV

The timney has worked flawlessly for me in my .22 with slide fire.

I have the Timney 3 lb in a dedicated upper using a Ballistic Advantage barrel and a CMMG SS bolt. It does not always light off CCI products but is fairly reliable with Federal bulk. I haven't had enough of a problem to change it yet. I also have a RRA 2 stage that has been 100% reliable in another dedicated upper.

My 3lb Timney has no problems with ignition on my .22 AR.

Still having a reset problem with my Slide Fire, though.
