so I'm researching building a dedicated 22lr upper and I'm a bit confused.  i found a barrel with chamber adapter on midway for $100 22lr barrel.  I have planned to put a cheaper free float on this build so that would come with a barrel nut.  only thing left to do now is get an upper receiver of my choice to put the barrel into (duh).

now is where i'm confused.  do I just purchase a cmmg conversion and then I'm done?  what is the barrel adapter for if the conversion kit already has a chamber adapter to fit into a 223/556 chamber?

If anyone could clarify I would appreciate it.

A dedicated upper uses a barrel collar attached to the rail that snaps on the barrel.
A conversion uses a chamber adapter for 5.56 chamber.

ok, but that didnt' answer my question.

I have a 22lr barrel, a standard upper receiver, free float handguard setup.  what do I need to buy to finish?  is the chamber adapter from a 22 conversion need to be removed?

If you bought the CMMG barrel with collar, you need to buy a conversion kit. Take the adapter off the rail and replace it with the collar.

CMMG does not sell the bolt/rail without any collar or adapter.
If you buy the conversion for a 5.56, you will have the parts to use it as a dedicated bolt or a conversion by switching the adapter/collar out.

oooooooh I get it now!   thats perfect.  I'll buy the conversion and then just keep saving to buy more parts for a dedicated upper!  thanks!

It's a lot simpler than you think.  I went the same route and it's a blast.
