| Is there anyone that makes a shorter collapsible buttstock/ tube assembly? The reason I ask is because I'm building 5" barreled 9mm. I like my stock at either the 1st or 2nd position so it never gets extended all the way out but it won't fit in my bag I carry. it's about 2" too long fully collapsed from fitting properly. I know they make some shorter pistol tubes but I haven't seen any with a stock. |

Gunsmoke enterprises makes a 4 inch buffer tube assembly....BUT it is designed for a gas op......by design it wouldn't work with a blowback.....as the recoil spring actually nests up in the back of the bolt carrier....(Their 1st Generation Model) Their secon genneration MIGHT work with an olympic arms as it is designed to run with a standard carbine buffer but it would require maachining the bolt carrier........so not sure there...I KNOW the 1st gen works with the .45 Gas op uppers I build......but I haven't had time to really play with the 9mm gas guns.....I've built them but haven't tested with the GSE short buffer tube. Plus 5 inches might be a weeeeeee bit short for a gas op 9mm...I've been playing with a 4 inch .45.....but is isn't reliable ...YET Ron is selling them now I think.......but either way....if cost is an issue....it'll be cheaper to get a longer bag.....
Or I could probably design a wire stock along the lines of the M231 firing port weapon........would require a gas op upper......a custom recoil system and the manufacture of a wire stock and mount to slide up along side the lower and latch in the closed position. It's doable but with my current workload would take a while to get to.....hope this at least gives you some ideas where to go with this.....and if you have an Olympic style upper....get an extra bolt carrier and I'll be happy to cut it down to match the the GSE 2nd generation buffer....still have to make a stock though......or a 608 style stock could be fabricated.........just a solid tube with a buttplate.... |

Don't know if this would help at all as it's a fixed length but I bought one because it was cute... http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=9946/Product/AR-15-LE-ENTRY-TACTICAL-STOCK Everyone I know that used the GSE Short Tube had lots of difficulties with function... And, you're talking 5", 9mm. |

And, you're talking 5", 9mm. Thats not any shorter than a fully collapsed telescopic stock. It needs to be a few inches shorter. I figured since you can get super short pistol buffer tubes there might be one that short but with one or 2 postitions for a stock. Pdw kind of gun. mad-machinist to be honest I'm not sure I grasp your concept. I'm not familiar with gunsmokes tube and exactly what you're trying to explain for gas op etc. I'll have to see if I can research their products. Thanks guys. |

I am sure it could be done if you shorten the action spring and buffer also, but you'd probably have to DIY it or find someone to do it for you as a one off. To keep things easy, I would suggest simply finding a different bag, or if you must keep using the bag you have, just separate the upper and lower so they will fit... |

I'm in Macon GA.....right off Interstate I-475....I see you are in Tennessee.....if you are in the eastern half of the state.....make a road trip one saturday morning, and we can look at what you have and run a few tests and see what we can come up with.....a shorter tube, spring and buffer....with a solid carbide slug in the buffer might just work......and making a stock like you describe is no biggie.......I have tube plate and a tig welder.... |
| Hey thanks for the offer. Unfortunately I'm in Nashville so it's not as easy a drive as if I was in Chattanooga or something. Maybe I could take a raincheck and make a weekend of it sometime. I have quite gathered all the parts yet I'm kind of doing it a little at a time as I find deals on new and used things. So far I've got the lower built w/ mag block, a 16" barrel that will eventually be cut and rethreaded, and an upper. So all I'm missing it basically the bcg, at least to test for function. Again thanks for the offer and maybe if it's still good after Christmas I can take you up on it. Between working gun shows and the holidays coming up working retail (I work for a local gun shop) keeps my weekends pretty tied up. |
