I am getting a complete RRA 9mm upper and going to use my Stag lower from a 556 rifle. Standard Stag LPK installed.
What do I need to do about the hammer? Or bolt? I will use a mag block as well. |

Here is RRA's instructions for the conversion. I use their buffer and upper. Mag and hammer doesn't work. They say to use their hammer for the conversion. I tried it with my JDMachine lower and the RRA upper and The charging handle locks up unless the hammer is cocked. I forget what hammer is in mine but the RRA doesnt work with their upper for me .Also their magazine pops out the last round and jams. C Products magazines work flawlessly. Not so with RRA mags and ProMags. I am now using a Double Diamond lower. |
| I have a RRA upper for the last few years. I use the RRA 9mm hammer and it works great. I have used the upper on a couple of different lowers, one an RRA 5.56 with mag-well installed and the other a Cav Arms lower. With both lowers I used the RRA 9mm hammer and it performed perfectly. Can't comment on the poster who had problems. Seems our "Mil-Spec" lowers are not as standardized as we might want.. OH...and I also have a CMMG dedicated lower and it works perfectly. |

It confused the hell out of me. I had a working hammer and then decided to get the RRA because it looked lighter. (It appears to be their standard hammer millled off at the top and a notch cut in it making for a small hammer face and a rectangular pad below the hammer striking face.) The hammer that works has a one flat surface striking area. Purchased from RifleGear I believe. Anyway. When the hammer is in the fired position, you can not open the bolt. It's like something on the hammer catches an angle on the bolt. Like it was made for a ramped bolt which the RRA is not, I believe.
Weird. I need to call RRA and find out what the problem is. I have a JD Machine lower. It has worked well with a Stag 223 upper and a Tacsol .22 conversion upper. No fitment problem with any parts and it appears to be as well made as my Stag lower. Don't know what the issue is. |

That's the hammer my gun has that works with the RRA upper. The rounded top (As opposed to one with a notch in the top)
When I changed lowers to a DD dedicated lower and added the RRA hammer, it would not permit opening the bolt. Only with the hammer in the cocked position could you cock it with the RRa hammer. My local dealer blamed it on the RRA lower. Huh? Don't see how the RRA lower can effect the relationship of the hammer hitting the bolt and blocking it's draw back. Something is amiss and I doubt that it's the lower. I am not going to the trouble to install the RRA hammer in my old standard lower to see if the RRA upper works with it. It works now and so be it. |
