I have a Primary Arms M4 red dot mounted on a CMMG conversion. It's zeroed in at 25 yards. What will my point of impacrt be at 50 and 100 yards? At what distance will it also be zeroed?
Thanks, Ed |

It depends....on your ammo. Good idea might be to do some searching based on what ammo you are planning to use. Here is a start, some info on Federal .22's. If you poke around much with some search engines you will find a wealth of information and charts on this subject as this question gets asked all the time.
Look here: Federal Rimfire Information Once you get to that page just pick out your round and click on the "Details". You will get charts on all sorts of info on your rounds. You can find this info at many sites around the net. |

Thanx John, I did the research a while back. Others may disagree but IMHO keeping your targets at 100 yards or less is where any 22 ammo shines.
There's a lot of drop and possible wind drift beyond that point. 25 yards to 100 yards, I found an 8 to 10 inch drop. Yes, you can compensate, fairly easily with a scope like the totally trick 4-16X that Walmart sells but for me, beyond 100 yards is a bit much to ask of the 22 LR. Dave S |

| I got the cmmg stainless kit a few months back. I also have the Primary Arms M4 mounted on my bushmater. POI with Federal 550 bulk dropped about 4 inches. I have two marks on my red dot adjustment, one for 22lr and one for 5.56 zero. I love the conversion and I'm currently looking to purchase a supressor within the next few weeks. I'll warn you now, 8 inch steel plates at 100 yds get boring after a few magazines. |

Looking at the charts and reading the info I find that if I zero my .22 at 25 yards it rises slightly and then hits zero again at about 50 yards. After that it drops with that drop accelerating as it approaches 100 yards. (Due to the rapidly slowing of the bullet) Like Dave said, maybe -8" at 100 yards.
Since I grew up using a .22 as a hunting rifle for small game I stuck with the 25 yard zero as that covered what I needed for squirrels and rabbits in the woods quite nicely. If I had to try to get a ground hog out to 100 yards I aimed high (recall the 8" drop at that range). A standing ground hog is a much bigger target than a tree rat. Besides, at 100 yards you could see the bullet impact and adjust before the hog ran off. Now, there are folks here that shoot out to 200 or 300 yards with their .22 just for practice, but there are some major drops out there. |
