| Took my son shooting for the first time today. Brought my CMMG dedicated upper/ Colt 6920 combo and an old bolt action .22. Loaded up 9 bdm mags and brought a fresh 550 federal value pack of ammo. The bolt gun was too long for him, so the .22 AR got all the love. Shot close to 750 rounds. Didn't have a single malfunction until about 700 rounds when I had a couple failure to ejects. When I broke it down for cleaning it was filthier than a regular AR after a carbine course. I was very impressed. Neither of my 10/22's could go anywhere close to that without crapping out. |

Federal Bulk has gotten back on course for reliability. It's not the cleanest ammo though. You fired close to what I had the one time that forward assist came in real handy... Congrats on your range trip. It'll be a trip your son will remember for the rest of his life... He'll have bragging rights next time he sees his friends... |

I told a guy yesterday, CMMG put the fun back into .22's for me. Good report Dave N Yep. My stockpile of 5.56 ammo might be collecting dust for a while. 20 bucks vs almost $300 for 750 rounds of 5.56 is hard to beat for an afternoon of shooting. I would have been afraid to put that many rounds through my Ciener kit in one session for fear of clogging the gas tube. |

Actually, the Federal bulk that I used was purchased during the ammo crisis of 2008-2009. It worked just fine. Not the most accurate stuff out of the CMMG upper. I was getting about 2-3" @ 50 yards with an Aimpoint Comp M2. I figured the 1/16 barrel might be a little more accurate. I'll have to try some magnified class and a variety of ammo next time I go to the range. |
