I've never had a dud in 22 magnum ammo in all the years I've shot it –– I did have a problem with the firing pin in a 10/22 magnum rifle. I thought the ammo was the problem at first but realized that never happened before so I took the 10/22 magnum apart and found the bad firing pin. What brand of ammo are you using?

I think because of the thicker rim, they have more priming compound, so rarer dry spots.

I'm not using any brand yet. I was thinking of trying one of the new Keltec pistols but not if I am going to get the dud rate of their little brother's.

Been doing some torture testing on the 22wmr uppers that we are developing......we've had ZERO failures to fire, if memory serves me right.

I would expect 22WMR to be better quality than bulk rimfire.
I do have a question. Isn't .22 WMR approaching the price of .223 ammo? If so, what is the reason to shoot .22 WMR?

Tim of Nordic Components has extensive experience with 22 Mags.
I'm sure his round count is way up by now... Check out their 22 mag
upper if you haven't already.. Added 4:15 PM: I'm now aware that it's
still in developement.. Oops

You can get a box of 50 for as little as $7.50.  Even the premium stuff is under $13 for 50.

Well that makes sense then. Thanks. I'll have to check one out. Never shot .22 WMR.

Tim,

This has probably been asked already, if so, I apologize... Will your .22 Mag uppers require the use of an AR buffer and spring, or can they function correctly without them?

Thanks,

Dan

Oh man, a PMR-30? If you get one do you think you could post a report on it.

sorry....not sayin yet....officially....it's still under development. Besides, this thread isn't about a specific weapon.

OK, fair enough. Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the thread. It's just that the .22mag caliber and your forthcoming uppers seem to be one in the same topic lately.

Alright, here is a .22mag specific question... I don't own a .22mag rifle and I don't recall ever having fired one, so I'm not too familiar with its ballistic characteristics. Which of the following diagrams is the most accurate in comparing the overall ballistic properties of the .22mag  with the .22LR and .223Rem? (Assuming: .22LR = 30gr hi-vel solid point, .22mag = 40gr standard vel solid point and .223Rem = 55gr standard vel FMJ)

A)   .22LR..........22mag........................................................................................223Rem

B)   .22LR...................................22mag...............................................................223Rem

C)  .22LR..................................................................22mag................................223Rem

To my limited knowledge, the .22LR is a great round for small to medium size varmint hunting. It has a longer effective range and a flatter trajectory than the .22LR, but lacks the punch and maximum effective range of .223Rem. Considering that almost all of us own AR's in both .22LR and .223/5.56, what niche does the .22mag fill that wouldn't already be filled by either the .22LR or .223?

the 22wmr is an excellent choice for coyotes out to 100 yard. $13 for lead free makes it an easy choice out here in california.I am chomping at the bit waiting for the nordic to come out! Power is right between the 22lr and the 22hornet. AndI've never had duds with the 22wmr

I'm panting with anticipation for a .22 Mag upper. It's something I've been wanting for a very long time. I actually thought that a conversion kit would suffice, but the twist would still be too fast in a standard 5.56 barrel, I think.
