For those of us using AR .22's you know what Federal has done with the Bulk .22.
It's very inconsistant and unreliable. Several duds are being sent out.
I have written Federal 3 times in the past two years.
It wasn't always that way. I used to recommend Fed Bulk. Now it has become a joke across several boards.
I stated to Federal that I will suggest a boycott on Federal .22 Bulk Pack. Maybe if it doesn't sell, they will take a look.
No real reason to buy it anyhow. It's crap.

I have 30K of American Eagle in the reload room so I will boycott the 550 packs with you.

Obviously, I recommend the AE.

Yes, that is why I said I'll boycott the 550 pack.

so your boycotting federal, but still supporting them by using and recommending their ammo(AE)

No. I don't use the 550 pack..........so, By my boycott, nothing has changed. Hence the smiley with the first reply. I have had issues with the other Fed ammo, but none with the AE packs. That is why I purchased so much of it.

ok, so just the 550 bulk your boycotting. not FCC in general. but look at the bigger picture. if they start skimping on the bulk stuff, who's to say they aren't goin to start skimping on their other lines of ammo?

I use Fedral in my carry weapons. Runs 100%.
I don't know if they are out sourcing the Bulk Pack but I know when the packaging changed a couple years back is when the ammo changed.

15,000 in the rack and zero issues to date.

I understand what you are getting at. But, I already do my part. I found the AE to be of better quality in my opinion, so that is what I continue to buy. If at any time in the future the quality goes down, I will not purchase more and switch to another brand while shooting the good ammo stash I have now. I will not ever purchase any Remington .22 ammo because of quality and Fed can be the next in line by their own choice.

I've heard good things about the AE. How much are you getting it for. No one handles it here.

See it in Wally now  near $19 a pack,I bought a boatload when it was $7.97 per 550 at Wally, four or five packs (Or More) a week for a year plus for my stash

I stocked up when a small town local shop got in a couple pallets. I think I payed $14 per 500 about a year ago. The price has went up and I buy 1 extra box every time I go shoot when it is on sale for $14.97.

So if it is on sale, I'll buy 2, shoot 1 type thing. If no sale, I shoot from the stash.

I bought up a lot of Federal bulk from Wally World just before .22 ammo started getting scarce. I've only had one box that was bad (so far). That box caused a lot of failures to fire, squibs and just plain inconsistent results. The rest that I've shot have been good with even pretty decent accuracy in my ARs.

I switched to Win 333.

I switched to CCI standard velocity after having numerous problems with Fed bulk.  Since the switch I have had zero failures in my TacSol M4 or in my Smith 15-22.  I will use the Fed in my lever and bolt guns.
Edited to add that My Smith 41 and Walther P22 like it better too!

I have been using wally world federal bulk pack copper coated  hollow points for well over 10000 rounds and have almost 3800 more in the climate controled gun storage. Never a problem I have had all these issues with remington golden I have had bullets stuck in my 10/22 and single 6 before from remington never had these issues from federal! This is the first time I have heard of anyone with these issues and I am on rimfirecentral alot and never read this, but then again I only see the ones about remington ammo those come up at least once a month. so I geuss I will have to start watching I will be very unhappy if fed has screwed up somthing good here. I think your poll should have had the option for no problems all good with federal I think you would see almost 98% would probably pic that as I did not vote because of it being a none issue yet I had no option to poll. I will watch the fed ammo carefully.

This is concerning the Federal 550 Bulk Pack sold at Walmart.

What I am finding is mixed. Some have a lot of issues Some have none, which is even more baffling.
I din't think I made myself clear on the main issue for me.

I'm not stating they don't ignite. I realize any bulk pack will have some of those. I realize bulk ammo isn't the most accurate.

What my main complaint is, the inconsistant loads which lead to failures to cycle and inaccuracy. 20% of the Fed I have shot in the last couple of years go sub sonic, meaning they have less powder than the other 80%.
I've had some that sound like they barely push the round out of the barrel. And that has been consistant through many boxes.
That has nothing to do with what set up they are fired from.

I haven't had any problems with the 550 bulk packs. My pile is a few years old though but what I have works well in all but 1 of my 22s. Not the most accurate compared to Auto Match or CCI standard.

I have only ever had problems with a couple rounds out of several bulks. Maybe one or two per 550.

Works better than Remington bulk pack.

All of the bulk pack stuff is inconsistent in my experience.  You want quality ammo, you pay the piper.

Runs great in my Spikes short barrel with dedicated upper.

I recently tried the 550 bulk pack in my nordic. It was less accurate than winchester 330, (not that the 330 is tackdriver ammo) and there were several rounds that didn't fire the first time. One I remember wouldn't fire after 4 tries!
I won't be buying any more.

I have shot 20,000+ rounds in the last 3 years and had no problems with either older or newer production.

This. Maybe 5 rounds out of 550.
The 333 pack does not work at all for my Spikes upper.

So far all that I've fired for years has been A-OK. I usually burn up maybe 10 bricks a year so not epic amounts but still a decent sample.

ETA - I've shot rifleman at Appleseed using it so accuracy is fine for me. I don't expect it to be match ammo.

Poll fail since there's no option for no problems.

I've run at least 6 boxes thru my CMMG Dedicated WASP upper. Maybe 6 or 8 per box will fail to ignite. They are plenty accurate in it & my cheap Marlin 795. The 550's didn't work well at all in my Ruger 22/45RP pistol - squibs & inconsistant power / felt recoil.

I've run a few thousand through a Nordic Components upper. The Federal 550 ran 100%, the 525 had some light rounds where you could hear the difference.

I've fired 80,000+ rounds of Federal Bulk Pack over the past couple years.
My testing has taken me off to better target ammo for more than 25,000
rounds so experiments with Federal ammo has slowed. Of those 80,000
rounds there have been lots that were as bad as 50/50. The norm for Federal
Bulk that I've fired is 2 to 3% FTF due to bad ammo.

In a real world situation, 1 percent failure is unacceptable...

every .22LR firearm I have ever owned has been picky about what ammo was reliable, and this is a pretty much known fact throughout the firearm community. My Ciener AR conversion loves the FC bulk pack (three different packages I have ,some of it is 15 yrs old, some 6 months old),my AA Glock conversion likes the Remmy golden bullets and nothing else (which is that AA recommends).my Marlins like Mini Mags and Fed Champions, etc, etc ,etc. I'm not saying FC hasnt had some bad lots or maybe changed production methods BUT it seems to me that boycotting them because their bargain priced ammo isn't perfectly reliable in  some individual guns (which like I said are inherently "finiky" to begin with) is a bit much.

.22LR is not centerfire.

Very true, 22 rimfire is much more likely to be firearm sensitive.
Centerfire is a whole different story. I can count the number of
failures I've had in the past 40 years with centerfire using just my
fingers..
