Maybe one of the "Two Daves" can answer these questions.

Can a Spike's .22lr dedicated collar be interchangeable with CMMG's
.22 Evolution Bolt Carrier Group/CMMG's standard BCG and vice versa?

What is the best way to disassemble collars from either manufacturer's
BCG's?

Thanks,
Ted

Yes, the barrel collar can be exchamged. I've done it more than once.
What you have to rea;ize is the CMMG collar has a detent that snaps into a groove on the barrel extension.
Spikes just has a slip collar.
So the collars have to be used with the proper barrel.
I slowly pull out on the left side of the rail, near the end where the collar sets. The slowly twist downward. The collar will pop out. Just don't force it or you can get the rail out of spec.
To install the other collar is just the opposite.
Put the rail into the slot on one side and pop in in place on the other rail leg.

Collars are pretty much interchangeable on rails. Rarely, minor fitting may be needed; a pair of recently acquired M1S collars won't quite fit on my Spike's or Christy's rails, the grooves need to be opened a little..
Collars must, of course, be compatible with barrel extensions. CMMG= .460", everybody else=.500".
Christy & Christy make a takedown tool to spread the rails "just enough"; I've just been manually (and carefully) spreading the rails enough to unclip the chamber insert/collar.
CMMG doesn't want you to take it apart, and IIRC, Ciener's instructions caution against disassembly. See why you shouldn't read instructions?
Spike's, CMMG's collars should interchange with no issues.
I type too damned slowly.
Curse you, Shadowcop!

Thanks guys!  I'm thinking that because the CMMG BHOA and CMMG 15 round mags are working so well
in my guns, I'd like to give their stainless Evolution bolt system with forward assist a try.

I like to build my own AR's in all calibers, and now that Spike's no longer sells bolts, or complete BCG's,
but still sells dedicated collars (for now anyway) it looks like CMMG will be getting more orders.

I buy my .22 rimfire barrels from Adam at Ballistic Advantage. His work is way beyond excellent, just be shure
to plan well ahead because his crew is always very busy. The wait is well worth it.

Thanks again guys,
Ted
