I'm beginning to build a 9mm AR and I've purchased a Double Diamond lower and have seen quite a lot of information on what it takes to build out a nice rig.
I'm starting to get bits and pieces together for my lower build and am looking on a good recommendation for a reliable build. I have a MagPul CTR stock, Spikes 9mm buffer, Ergo SureGrip and a DPMS LPK. I've also upgraded to KNS anti-rotation pins (0.154"). I am a bit concerned on the mil-spec trigger on the DPMS LPK. I intend to use a ramped bolt, so I've dropped the idea of a 9mm hammer. Any recommendations on a trigger upgrade? I considered sending the mil-spec trigger in the DPMS LPK off to Bill Springfield for a trigger job, but I'm open to what is out there ready to go. Any insight would be helpful. I'm open to any idea or lessons learned from past 9mm builds. Price isn't my main concern, however, the sky isn't the limit either when it comes to budget. Thanks for the help. |
| Spike's has their Enhanced LPK that I used to build my DDLES lower. It has a rounded type hammer and trigger group which is NiB coated and it is not DPMS. The trigger pull is really clean. It also comes with KNS Precision anti-rotation pins and an Ergo Suregrip pistol grip. They might be coming out with different variations of their Enhanced LPKs. I would rethink the Bill Springfield trigger job. |

For a single stage mil-spec style trigger, the DPMS can be made quite good without wasting the time or money to send it off to anyone - lightening the stock springs or getting reduced power springs will make a big difference. You can do the set screw mod under the grip screw to reduce pre-travel/take up. You can also do the speed mod to the hammer. If you really want, you can even stone/re-cut your sear surfaces if you have the skillz.
Even if you don't stone/re-cut the sear surfaces, it is very easy to get a ~4-5 pound trigger pull that is very reliable with a DPMS LPK... |
