Hey all,
Thanks for the info on my last post here in the rimfire section. So... would a dedicated .22 upper work on a standard 5.56 AR lower? A fellow ARF member says no.
The price of ammo these days are outrageous. And like I said in my previous post I bad luck with a CMMG conversion.
Also, by using the .22 dedicated upper does this improve accuracy?

A dedicated upper will work with an AR lower.  CMMG, Spikes and Tac Sol slap right on and are good as long as the hammer in the lower is rounded.  The rounded hammer improves performance. Notched hammers can cause malfunctions, but sometimes they work fine.

In theory, accuracy should improve since the barrel twist on a dedicated upper is slower, like 1:16 instead of 1:9 or faster, which is better for the .22 round.

There are some fully built .22's (like the Colt) that you cannot switch the upper to a regular lower.  Those .22 rifles are different internally.

What RLR350 said.

I have a Spikes .22 upper on a standard LMT lower, works just fine.

SpikesTactical, Model 1 Sales, Kuehl Precision, a home assembled Compass Lake barrel MK12 Mod 0 clone, and just finished two left handed (on lefty Stag receivers) M-4 for my son and a friend.
They go right on your milspec lower.
Occasionally some spring tuning is needed, but for the most part, they run from the git go.

This

I have a CMMG M4LE upper and it runs great on my SI Defense lower with a rounded hammer.

Sorry you had problems with the CMMG. I have to think it's an old one. The Evolution has been very reliable.
Like was stated, a CMMG, Spikes will fit a standard 5.56 lower. My CMMG M4 LE .22 came with a 5.56 lower.
Rounded hammer is recommended.
My M4 LE upper has given me .807 at 50 yards for accuracy with Eley Match. It's a stock barrel. Match barrel would give better than that.
Winchester 555 and CCI Mini Mags give me 1.2 at 50 yards.
My conversion kits give me about 1.5-2" at 25 yards through a 1/9 barrel with bulk Winchester 555.

P.S. If you still have the CMMG conversion, give them a call. It's a lifetime warranty and I sure they will take care of you.
The new ones are the best I've used. My conversions each have over 100 rounds with 3 FTE's out of the first mag. No failures of any kind after that.
My M4LE has 4000 failure free rounds on it. Pretty reliable.

An aftermarket dedicated upper running with a standard AR upper receiver will work on a standard lower.  I have two, one with a shortened M16 demil barrel & one with a dedicated Spike's barrel.  Both are about 5.5", and haven't had any issues with accuracy (quarter-size shoot 'n see at 25 yards offhand is all the more accurate I am anyway).  I use the same Spike's bolt, one with a dedicated collar and one with a chamber adapter.

YMMV, but I absolutely love my 22LR uppers.

Not only do they work, but work great. I'm not sure, but I don't think anyone mentioned Nordic Components NC22 dedicated upper.
I have a Tactical Solutions M4 and an LT, a Nordic NC22 20" stainless bull barrel and a CMMG M4 LE. I use these on 3 different lowers-
a RRA, DPMS and a Spike's Tactical. All 4 are more accurate than I am. They work and they are tons of fun and cheap to shoot!
