How does the BHO work with some of the 9mm mag blocks such as the spikes and hahn bottom loading and others...i was looking at this thread http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=61&t=182745 and it looks like you would need the long finger modification for any mag block...
does the magazine follower push on a part of the mag block that in turn pushes on the BHO? If someone could take a pic, it'd be great. Thanks, Tom ETA: also, will a geissele SSA work with a ramped bolt carrier? thanks again |

Some mag blocks have a sliding piece that does just that, transfer the movement from the follower to a standard 5.56 type bolt catch. With others, you have to use the special 9mm style bolt catch. This style will still give you manual bolt catch operation with a 5.56 type catch but not last round hold open. |

Ok, here's another one...What is the difference in some of the colt style magazines, for example - spikes mags are 45 bucks, but c products are like 15 a piece...what gives? Also, what's better, spikes magwell block or hahn bottom loading? Metalform mags are and have been Colt factory branded mags. Preban mags are insanely high priced, L.E. marked is ~$50 and up each. Spikes mags are Metalform mags which have been branded with the spikes logo. ~$45. METALFORM MAGS (without any factory branding by Colt or spikes) DIRECT FROM CDNN COST $30 FOR 32rd AND $20 FOR 20rd. New orange follower Cproducts mags have worked for me with a little modification to the feedlips for my hahn block so the BHO will work. The older black follower Cproducts mags work 100% with no modification... My Colt mags function perfectly (metalform). I have a steel promag and a plastic promag, the steel version is reliable 90% and the plastic is about 75%. The spikes magblock is made by hahn, as is the RRA. Get whatever you want. I personally favor the toploading dedicated hahn block for my cavarms build. |

Anyone know if its possible to have a BHO with the VM Hytech block using unmodified uzi mags? No it's not. Completely unmodified Uzi magazines have nothing on the followers to activate the BHO. M60 Joe modifies Uzi magazines to have a tab on the follower, similar to that on Metalform's followers, that trips the bolt catch. And the VM block doesn't have any connecting link for BHO, so you'd also have to add a "long finger" bolt catch to make that work. |
