Has anyone done a study about what conversion kit parts exchange BEST with the Ciener kit.. CMMG.. SPIKES.. SARCK.. or KUEHL.. |
|
They SHOULD all interchange, for the most part, since they're all based on Atchisson's patent design (finally expired so others than JAC could make them).
I have personally used a CMMG frame to rebuild an older Ciener kit, and a spare CMMG firing pin and extractor for the same kit in case it's needed. Can't speak to the others from personal experience. |

Not so; the plating on Spike's Tactical bolts renders their rails unusable with other Atchisson bolts, although my Spike's bolt runs OK on my Ciener rail. CMMG and Ciener should be direct replacements, although the CMMG collar doesn't fit anybody else's barrel except DPMS. Spike's firing pin is different also, since the retaining roll pin is in a COMPLETELY different location. |

The relevant Atchisson patent (U.S. patent no. 4,169,329) issued on Oct. 2, 1979, hence it expired on or before late 1999. It was not until the Assault Weapons Ban along with magazine capacity limit to 10 rounds expired and was not renewed in late 2004 that it became economically viable for multiple parties to make AR-15 .22 conversions.
Not legal advice, MHO, YMMV, erc. |
