I'm using a M16 lower..I believe a RRA carrier, The upper? is chambered for 40 S&W...
No Gas Tube....... The firing pin BARELY touches the primer..will NOT fire..???????? HELP ![]() ![]() [email protected] |

Your using a 9mm bolt with a 40sw chamber barrel ? or 9mm carrier modified to hold a 40sw brass/ammo with a 40sw chamber barrel ?
Sounds like you are trying to use a Oly 40sw barrel with a standard 9mm bolt, we need pictures. A stock 9mm bolt wont work with a 40sw chamber barrel unless mods have been made. |

Thanks for reply
The barrel is made from a blank ...... The carrier has been modified from a 9mm to 40S&W cartridge....... On a 5.56/223 carrier the opening where the hammer travels is approx 1/4" longer, right at the carrier key, thus letting more of the firing pin show.... On the 9mm/40S&W carrier the hammer slot is approx 1/4" shorter, back from the carrier key, thus not letting the FA hammer hit the firing pin hard enough..... The firing pin hardly shows from the hole the firing pin fits in... thus not letting the hammer hit the firing pin enough....... You can't mill the face of that hole for it will hit the hole where the firing pin retainer pin fits in.... We have tested to see how hard the firing pin hits, VERY VERY slightly........ On the M16 carrier the primer is hit VERY HARD........... My conjecture is to make a firing longer at the rear so the hammer can propel the firing pin forward harder............ They should make firing pins to function in FA....... Lot of FA out there...... I've emailed RRA, no response as yet............

I measured that space from barrel space to case head = .135
My thinking on this issue is:: The hammers for SA (RRA) have a area that seams to match up with firing pin hole..... The FA hammer is completely flat................... My thinking is the firing pin needs a longer area at the rear so the hammer can push (strike) it harder............. My friend that is a master machinist, said he could make me one longer.......... If you compare the hammer travel area on the M16 bolt, it's about a 1/4" longer than the 9mm/40s&w travel area....... The travel cut on the M16 carrier butts up to the rear of the carrier key.............. On 9mm/40 caarier the travel area is about 1/4' to the rear of the carrier key............. IF, one could mill that out I believe it would work...BUT, you can't because the firing pin keeper hole in the carrier is to close............... |
