So I've been using the Ciener kit for the last couple of months and shot around 2K of bulk (mostly Fed. Champion 32gr and Winchester Dynapoint 40gr) and some CCI SV and to my surprise it's been 100% reliable. I've tuned it a little bit but it really works great, I can mag dump all day long and it'll not jam. I'm reading that there is some black magic regarding the 22lr conversion and I'd like to use that bolt in a "dedicated setup" so it doesn't crap my HD upper. So I've got a few questions.
- Barrel length. Up here there is no bbl length laws concerning 'restricted rifles'. Right now I'm running the kit in a 11.5" 1/9 twist Armalite barrel. I've tested it also in a 20" Colt 1/12 barrel. Both have been 100% flawless. Is there is a limit on how short can I be ? At 5.5-7.5" does it run less great. I've seen a lot of people run their 5.5" suppressed but alas I don't live in a free state so that's not an option. - Upper receiver. I've been looking at the DPMS lo-pro. Is it good ? I've read it had a higher rail than milspec A3 receivers. Also do I need m4 feeramps in my upper? I plan to use an AR15 223/5.56 1/12 barrel since 22lr dedicated barrels are hard to find here. - Lower receiver. I'd like to have a folding stock. I already got a Ace folding mecanism + receiver bloc for AR15, is there a good decent lightweight stock that would be a great fit ? |

Up where?
Barrels can be mail ordered directly within the US, and you'll get the right twist and a real chamber. Any milspec upper will do. Dedicated barrel. Your 1:12 .223 is a reasonable alternative, especially if it's paid for. Barrel nut, handguard, etc. Ciener, Kuehl Precision, Model 1 Sales, or Spikes Tactical collar to replace the chamber insert, if you go with a rimfire barrel. Redtazdog is the 5" pro around these parts, but shorter can be a problem, apparently. |

Wherever you are sounds like some strange governing laws? The Ciener will work
perfectly with any barrel length until the back pressure drops off beyond being compensated. I have used one completely stock in a 7.5", .223 / 5.56mm upper without any problems. Redtazdog is "The Expert" of short barrels. He helped set me up with a Clint Beyer 8" barrel at his offer and my request, but that's a dedicated setup. The 1:12" is a good alternative to a dedicated setup. As far as a stock, I guess it's an open world with the folder, you can make almost anything work. I'm not sure about the Lo-Pro being higher than an A3. I have used several High Ride Upper Receivers with good luck. They're a very strong receiver. Good Luck, Spec |
