Ok, so I have a spare reciver and I could use a dedicated .22lr upper. If I get a Spikes .22lr dedicated barral (get a barrel nut, FSB, and flash hider/muzzle brak..) and their bolts+the BDM mags will it work?

Will their barrel fit in a regular ar15 reciever? I guess that is a better question to ask

Simple answer Yes. You could free float and skip the front sight/block completely.
Need a Charging Handle too.... Do the upgrade M4 Lothar Walther Barrel or the Stainless
Bull Barrel for more,,, and more accuracy.

The .22 is blowback operated, so you don't have to use the front sight.  The barrel won't have a gas port.

Yes, the barrel will fit.  I put one together this way in 12/08.

You could use a spectre length rail and one of the fake SD cans, since there isn't a gas block to worry about.

Just be prepared to run 200-300 rounds of Federal bulk through it for break in.  It probably won't run well on Remington bulk.
