Well last night I got in my CMMG stainless drop in conversion. After reading about a lot of the small issues that people run into with these types of kits I immediately broke out the 2 rifles I am going to use the kit on and checked the fit and function. Both rifles dropped in with no force required, chamber adapter was fine and was easy to remove. With the amount a variable that are involved with these rifles one must expect to get kits that do not want to run 100% on occasion. I took advantage of the sale that 44mag.com was running on the black dog mags and picked a couple of them up. The black dog mags do fit a little better in the lower with less wobble. Kit looks very nice and is made well, the rear plate is TIG welded on so I doubt that the weld will break. Backed by CMMG's lifetime warranty I am not too worried about it.

Hit the range today and the kit ran great, did not have a bunch of time so I only put about 300 rounds through it. To be fair and honest on this range report I did have one malfunction, using the factory mag on rapid fire I had one double feed. The second to last round and last round both fed out of the magazine together, I believe I may have it the magazine with my jacket pulling it to a weird angle but I am not 100% sure. This was after about 50 rounds fired and could not duplicate the issue. Overall I will accept this as a successful investment, it was an absolute blast to shoot, I was actually impressed with the accuracy out of the LMT 10.5 inch upper considering that it is a 1/7 twist rate. I was not shooting for groups and since I was at the indoor range I only shot at 15 yards. It was holding 25 shot groups the size of a quarter at about 10 yards, shooting off hand of course and shooting through a red dot. I do not see a problem destroying cans at 50 yards with this thing. For those that are on the fence about getting one I suggest you take the plunge and save some money on ammo. My only complaint is that I did not get one sooner! It ran fine with the Armalite 2 stage, Next outing we will find out if it runs with the RRA since it has the notched hammer.

Just want to say thank you to CMMG for making a good kit that is a lot of fun.
Also want to say thanks to Black Dog Machine for making some awesome magazines that run flawless, for those that have battled with 10/22 aftermarket mags will understand the frustration of spending money on mags that do not work worth a damn. The BDM mags may be a little spendy but are worth every damn penny, but considering I picked them up for 17.99 each from one of our Site sponsors 44mag.com its not a bad deal.

Oh and I know the rules, Pics or it didn't happen

Very nice set up. Thanx for the detailed report. I have one of the CMMG Stainless Steels Conversions
and like it a lot more than the standard finish. It ran 100% with a few ammo related malfunctions. I prefer
the BDM Mags in clear or smoke so I can see the rounds in the mags. The SST Kit is easy to clean too...

Well I took it out of the AR Pistol to clean it up a bit, the conversion is a snap to clean. Most of the fouling wiped off with a rag, I ran the kit nearly dry with only a small amount of CLP on it, and one drop in the firing pin channel. The most surprising thing is the barrel is super clean! I guess the chrome lined barrel helps but the only fouling I can see is inside the charging handle is dirty from the gas blowing into the upper from the gas tube.

Do you normally run your kit dry or wet?

And how many rounds does it usually take to get cycle problems with 5.56, until the fouling burns out?

I've ran upwards of 500 .22 rounds in VERY rapid fire through my 16" LMT, then put my 5.56 bolt in and ran 5 rounds as fast as I can fire...the 5.56 fed and fired perfectly without a hitch.

I run the .22 kit with gun oil on the rails...when I tried to run it dry, I had numerous failure to feed/double feeds etc...a couple of drops of oil and the .22 CMMG kit (regular not stainless) ran perfectly.
