Not sure this is the place to ask, but I will any way.

Anyone have pics of the Spike's CAR1, ET1 or SD1 fake can or similar mounted on their AR?

Yes, you were...

I guess I can see puting on one to attain the legal OAL, but what's the purpose of putting one on a 16" or longer? If it's the tacticool looks, then I guess I'll never understand.

What is the purpose of a fake can......other than to add un-needed weight to the front end???

Some people here don't have that freedom to own suppressors/silencers in there state. Why do people attach fake cans on the guns? Because it just looks hella cool!

I guess it just seems airsoftie to me.....hell if its just for looks....why even have a real gun?  Why even buy quality parts?? Hell you can get a fake knights rail, a fake acog, hell a fake grenade launcher even....why stop at just the silencer?

Just because I can and it's not your money I'm spending on the "airsoftie".
Besides, fake cans are like fake boobs, I like looking and playing with them.

The only fake can I have is for my Spike's Tactical ST-22 .22LR AR. It's only a .22 rifle and there wouldn't really be any benefits of installing a flash hider or compensator. Some people also use fake cans to hide the skinny long barrels of certain carbines such as an HK94/GSG-5 because they just look off without it.

Variety, That's why we do Fake Cans. I've built so many AR's that I'm tired of them all blending together and looking the same. Fake Cans give me a different Look and don't have to be registered. If I'm in a War then I use a Real Rifle with Real Parts.

Middle Left is a Spikes 9mm with 6" barrel / 10" rails and Spikes Fake Can.  Normally I use a 9mm XL on this, but when I don't this is how the fake lines up.

Top is an AR-45 with 6" Barrel and 10" rail.   Normally it has the HTG Cycle 2, but in this shot it has a Spikes fake can.

Fake cans get flamed here all of the time, but I find it conveniant on these guns if I want to take them to a no can state and not have muzzle blast coming out the rails.

Plus sometimes, I just don't want to use the can.

^ This. I agree 100%. I'd never buy one. That said....

I can't argue with that logic either. To each their own. For the record, I also hate fake boobs.

Are fake cans hollow inside or do they still rifle the projectile?

here what you are missing with 9mm any thing longer than a 12'' barrel start to drop in speed because all the powder is used and you just have barrel drag.

10.5" barrel with fake can = 1400 fps with a 115 grain and 1200 fps with a 147

16" barrel = 1100 fps with a 115 grain and 950 with a 147

I don't have to ask mother may I to cross state line with my set up

Well, some had bad experience with fake cans before, probably saw and felt botched up implants? How can you hate quality made fake cans? I'm talking about the silicone ones implanted under the muscle with the insertion site by the belly button. Now those look and feel natural. As for me, I like 'em both ways: fake ones that look real and real ones that look fake

Well I use a fake can on my 5.5" when I'm not using the real one to keep the flash from coming through my hand guards.

Had a Spikes SD on my 9mm pistol.  I had shot the gun before so I knew how accurate it was when I put the fake one on.  Helped the flame get out from under the front site but the accuracy was not good.  Shots were all over the place with everything I fed her.  Took the can off and accuracy returned.  I sold the can and am getting a real one soon.

I would see about trying one first to see if it has the same effect the one did on my gun.  Your mileage may vary.  I will say though, the quality of Spike's fake can was very nice and it threaded on and off with ZERO issues.

And fake cans, like fake boobs, do nothing to enhance the original purpose of your AR15.

But if you like the looks of them, and you have the money to spend, go ahead and buy one.  It really shouldn't matter what other people think.

It shouldn't but it seems that it does for a lot of people.  One only needs to spend 2 minutes around here to realize that.

I just had a friend drill some Aluminum Barstock that was cut to lengths so I can make some "Fake Cans"in a variety on my Hobby Lathe. There's no way that the Slip Overs  cause accuracy to drop other than a slight period of extra recovery over a good Comp.. On the other hand, I've tried 30 or more Comps, Flash Hiders and home made Widgets in my lifetime. Some of them have caused drops in Accuracy and others always blew dirt in your face when prone. This is all about the Fun part of AR's. When people take the hobby part of AR's too seriously it's either their job or it's just plain work. Would I ever use a Fake Can on a Weapon I counted on for my Life? Probably Not. But then I probably wouldn't use a Real Can either.
