So what would be the max effective range of 9mm through a 16" barrel? I'd assume that +p rated ammo is the way to go. 100yd? less because of accuracy? or is it velocity that drops very quickly? I'm thinking of purchasing one so I'm wondering for worse case defensive use.

My Uzi with iron sights and 16" barrel (working on getting that fixed but damn ATF is slow lately) is a 4MOA gun. I've gotten hits on 8" steel at 250 yards at local matches. Once you get out there 9mmP drops like a rock, it took me a few rounds to get the holdover right at 250.

Even at 200 yards 9mm is going to be capable of causing death or serious wounds. Not the class of weapon I'd prefer to take to a long range fight but you wouldn't be totally helpless either.

As I always say in these threads, you need to define 'effective' either through the minimum amount of muzzle energy or the maximum amoutn of bullet drop that is acceptable.

Otherwise, figure a subgun is good for about 100-150 yards, 250 tops.
