Is there anyone who makes a conversion kit/ upper for an AR15 in 44 magnum?

So is the 22lr. The 410 and 22 both have short, tapered rims as compared to the sharp 90 degree rim on the mag. This tapered rim no doubt helps it feed if it gets behind the next one in the mag. I would guess that if the 44mag would feed properly, there would have been no reason to introduce the 44 AutoMag which was based off of the .308 rimless rifle case. Most of the above is just speculation, as I am neither a firearm or cartridge designer.

If it can be done in a semi-auto gas operated pistol I would think it could be done in an AR.
When it comes to big bore AR's I think .44 mag would be an obvious choice maybe there's just not a big enough market for it. I believe that the market for something like this would be bigger than the market for .458 SOCOM, .450 Bushmaster, or .50 Beuwolf. Just based on ammo and reloading component availability. |
| 44mag has been done. Tony @ Tromix did it. In order to get it to feed I believe he maried the ARmag & the DE mag. It was a PITA to get it to feed. This is why it was discontinued. The 44AMP would be easy enough but again it could be an issue getting to feed. If you want to toss 44cal bullets the 440corbon would be the best choice. Mag conversion is easy & 100% reliable. Plus the 440 pushes the 44cal bullets about 200fps faster than the 44mag. My 440 pushes the 240g Speer hot core to 2050fps & the 180g Rem HPs to 2300fps. |

Now if someone had one in a 480 Ruger, I would be interested. Of course that is another story about winning a drawing and now having stockpiles of 480 that I doubt I will ever use.... I have a rifle chambered in the .480. I'll be glad to take that stockpile off your hands since it troubles you so... I'll even reimburse you for the cost of the raffle ticket. |
