I have recently dedicated my time to figuring ot whether to purchase a GSG5, a G22, or a conversion kit for my AR. I have been turned off from the ciener conversion kits due to some negative feed backs such as pins breaking at 2000 rounds, .22 shell jams, and the long term damage to the gas tube. Any positive or negative feed back?

Get a CMMG or Spikes and don't look back!  You will not be disappointed.  Do not worry about the gas tube or the barrel.  It is good to go!

Ciener, CMMG, and Spike's conversions are equivalent, though Spike's has excellent MFG support.

I've only heard of one guy who claimed to have plugged up a gas tube. The usual advice is to shoot some .223 after .22 to clear it out.

Ciener warns to clean the barrel and throat after high volume .22 because of some potential for a buildup of lead and wax, crud just in front of the chamber insert, leading to a minor obstruction situation with the potential to ring the barrel if you run a .223 round through it.

The 1 in 8" or 1 in 9" twist is not optimum for .22LR (1 in 16" is the norm). Older 1 in 12" barrels are said to give good accuracy. My 1 in 8" DPMS shot about 3" @100yd to a different point of aim by 8-10".

For cheap practice, CQB drills, plinking they're hard to beat.

For the price of a GSG-5 you can get a whole dedicated .22 upper and not worry about point of impact or barrel damage, unlikely though it may be.

They're all just replica's of an expired patient, how could the ciener be that bad?

My take is if you already own a AR lower, no point for a GSG.

GSG's are fun though after you mount an optic.

The stock irons are laughable.

I got a new Spikes nickle plated conversion 22  kit last week.  This is a very good looking conversion kit and I compared it to my older Ciener conversion kit.  The dimensions were almost identical  between the Spike and Ciener.  My Brother  bought a new High Standard AR yesterday with 16" chrome moley 1:9 inch twist barrel.  We sighted the HS AR in using Remington 55 grain FMJ.  We cleaned the rifle then proceeded to shoot Federal 36 grain bulk 22 rimfire in the HS using the brand new spikes conversion kit.  We fired at least 6 mags of 25 to 27 rounds and didn't have a single malfunction.  My Brother was using a cheap 5 MOA red dot and could hit a swinging steel bowling pin off hand at 100 yards with the rimfire sited in for 5.56/223.   Needless to say he is a very satisfied customer with the Spikes and the High Standard.  The Spikes bolt is very slick because of the nickle finish didn't require any break in compared to Ciener conversion kits I've used.  Since I already own a  Ciener I think my Brother is keeping the Spikes.   I mainly bought the Spikes to test and maybe build a dedicated upper later.  I guess I'm going to have to order another Spikes conversion kit.  Try one I think you'll like it.
