I am looking to get a dedicated .22 upper.  I really just want an A2 upper with standard hand guards and a 10" or so barrel.  The M1S website has what I would like listed for $475.  Am I going to regret it?

I see many people recommend spikes, but they really do not have what I am looking for (at least not showing up on their website), and the closest thing I can see would cost about $675 without a carry handle.  Are they worth an extra $200?

I am the type of person who would rather wait to get money saved up so I buy a quality product the first time.  Realistically though, M1S has the "look" I am trying to achieve, so it would be great if the quality is up there as well.

Thanks.

Spike's will build you whatever configuration you want, the catalog and website are really just suggestions.
Ditto M1S.
Not sure how standard handguards will be held on with a 10"barrel, but knock yourself out.

Model 1 Sales
The handguards stay on just fine, just like any other SBR.

Does anyone else have any experience with these.

I bought an unfired M1S 22 upper from a private party.  I had intended to order from Spike's but then this deal came up.  It's a 16 inch stainless barreled upper with a YHM railed hand guard and gas block.

First time to the range with Remington Golden Bullets and nothing fed - total jam-o-matic.  Second time to the range with Federal Bulk Pack, CCI Mini-Mags, Aguila Supermaximum and it fed flawlessly with all.  I'm using BDM mags.  I shot through ten mags rapidly at a session last week with zero failures to feed.

From my research, I was expecting to have to do quite a bit of tuning to get this to run right, and even ordered after-market springs but it runs like a top as is.

Thanks for the info.  I have a few K of Federal laying around I'll have to make sure and save for the new upper.  I'll just feed the Remington ammo to the 10/22.

You can tune things to make the Remington GB's work, but expect to spend a lot of time polishing the chamber edges.  My Spikes upper now digests just about anything I feed it, but getting to that point took quite a lot of effort.  Out of the box it worked real well with Federal bulk, but that was about it.
