I have an M261 kit and a bunch of mags. I have never been able to get it to fire rounds consistently. I have filed the firing pin to more of a chisel tip, but it still is very inconsistent.
I have seen a replacement firing pin for sale at Black Dog. Would that one work for the M261? Does anyone have suggestions for what I should try? Thanks. |

Black Dog firing pins won't work they are different. Try compass lake engineering they make a high quality firing pin or you can try Olympic arms. Olympic's Rimfire Adapter is the same as M 261. Also check the arc of the falling hammer is squarely hitting the head of the firing pin. Its possible the hammer is contacting the bottom of the bolt prior to striking the head. You might see a mark on the hammer or peening on the lower edge of the bolt below the firing pin. Some rimfire ammo is worse than others about not going off. I have terrible luck with most Remington and some WW 22 ammo being duds. Have you tried CCI mini mags or Blazers? You might also try Federal 550 round bulk pack or Aguila high velocity. Hope this helps.

| Is your firing pin well lubricated? Is your rifle's hammer spring OK and properly installed? That's all I can think of. I've never had a problem like that with my M261, though I've had a few cartridge failures. It's always been the ammo for me, but your problem sounds like it's something with the adapter. |

I had some problems with my m261 the other day when i went out.
It was being really inconsistent even in its failures, Some shells stuck in the ejection port sometimes the trigger wouldn't even reset, other dimes a double fire. I took the whole thing apart got a lot of the carbon buildup off my kit and opened up the whole assembly and cleaned out the firing pin which was a little dirty. Also do you know how to get the extractor claw out of its slot by any chance? I'm looking to buy some replacements too probably from sarco if I can ever get through >_< Good luck figuring that out I'm hoping for some improved results next time I go out. |
