| Is an upper receiver for a 9mm AR different from a regular 5.56 receiver? Can I buy a 5.56 upper receiver and put a 9mm bolt in and be good to go? (plus 9mm barrel and etc.) |

Then what designates the magazine system? From reading the tacked FAQ, the two systems are either Colt or Olympic. Is the magazine block the only factor there? Or does the bolt have something to do with it? bolt, barrel, magwell block and mag. So to use the RRA magazine methods I would need a RRA barrel as well as their bolt and mag block? Are the barrels on your website compatable with RRA? |

Are the barrels on your website compatable with RRA? It's all Colt-style so ANY Colt-style 9mm carbine part should work fine. As Amish_Bill says, I would also go with a "neutered M16" hammer instead of the special 9mm hammer; that gives you a lot more flexibility, since the 9mm hammer only works with 9mm systems. You only need to specify that you're going with a Colt system to make sure you get the right kind of parts. You could get a barrel from Bravo Company, a bolt from RRA, and a magazine block from someone else. Edited for bettar spallang. |

Quoted: Typical ARFCOM fashion I have BOTH LOL so I will save the ramped ones for the other stuff.Quoted: Quoted: You can use a 5.56 upper no problem. Don't I have to use an upper without M4 ramps? Since the 9mm barrels don't have ramps I read some where not to use uppers with ramps. Either way it wont matter. ramps or no ramps will be fine. |

Or does the bolt have something to do with it? The key difference's I've been able to figure out between the 2 style of systems (colt and OLY) are: *the colt style system has the ejector as part of the mag block. The OLY style system ejector is a piece that you need to drill a few holes into the upper receiver for and it becomes a part of the upper receiver. *the Colt style BCG has a "flat-ish" face, whereas the OLY style system BCG has a face that kind've goes to a point (this is because of the differences in the barrels). Look at pictures of the 2 different BCG's and you'll understand what I'm talking about here. *the Colt style system has it's feedramps on the magblock and the barrel has only a slightly rounded edge where the feedramps meet the chamber. The OLY style system has a much more pronounced rounded edge that looks as if it acts like part of the feedramps. This pronounced rounded edge also seems to server as the place that the "point" on the OLY style BCG goes into (noted above). Again, looking at pictures of each styles components will make this clear. |
