Before you flame me I tried a search and can't find anything..
I am looking for an option to lighten my current 22Lr Dedicated DPMS Upper. Inexpensively
I also don't like that I can't currently get hi-cap mags, but I understand that BDM should have some for this by January. The gun is way to heavy to do anything other than put it on a bench and shoot.

My options are open but, here are my thoughts...

1.) I could try to sell my Current upper and switch to a Spikes or other brand dedicated upper.
With the current presidential situation, Im too afraid to get rid of any guns. So I would like to keep it if possible.

2.) I could try to flute the barrel, however  I have a friend with an adequate machine shop at work... I don't think he has an indexer for his mill though. So this may be tough.

3.) I could try to lathe the barrel down, but I hear that cutting stainless down is a pain.

Anything that I need to think about regarding laws or other about modifying a barrel. The barrel is stamped underneath with serial number, brand, etc. If I lath it, this info will be gone. (Is scratching a serial illegal, if so obviously lathing it will be too)

I know that if it is turned or milled that it will reduce the strength a little, but the gun is virtually useless to me now. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

From reading post on this sight most people recommend ADCO about having the barrel's turned down to light weight.  I really don't know what ADCO would charge but I'm sure you could give them a call and they would give you a quote.  Now considering I have a very bad case of 22 lr BRD I suggest you keep your DPMS and get a light weight upper.  I have a DPMS AP 4 but also wanted a 22 AR to mount a scope.  I found a DPMS 16" bull barrel on the EE and bought it.  I think this is the best of both worlds.   I have a 22 AR set up like my duty rifle for training and a scoped 22 bull barrel AR for target shooting and plinking.  There are a lot of nice 22 uppers on the market right now.  Who knows what it will be like after Tuesday.    I would be hesitant to sell any gun or upper right now.  From my experience a gun is like money in the bank.  If you hold on to it very long you can always get your money back if you have to sell.  My DPMS bull barrel upper is very accurate and its part of the family.  I have my bull barrel upper mated to a Double Star Lower with a RRA NM LPK.  I just couldn't bring myself to sell it unless I fell on really hard times!
