i want a .22lr upper for my bushmaster ar-15.
but i dont kno who makes good ones and bad ones. which is most accurate and reliable.
what all do i need to do the conversion? a new barrel or can i kepp the 5.56 barrel?

and i heard about auto trips or something like that that makes  it FA... it that against the law? or do i need to $200 tax stamp or can i just buy it? i know nothing about the kits or the FA laws
does the auto trip just dump the mag or can i hold the trigger for 2-3 seconds then stop then fire again when im ready?

where can i find good mags?

should i buy the conversion kit or just buy a 10/22?

thanks

I would recommend a Dedicated 22LR upper.

I also would suggest a dedicated .22 upper. Spikes is what I run. If you are looking for accuracy the Spikes Lothar Walther is hard to beat. Spikes bolt/carrier is nickel plated. It can run with very little lube. That makes for a much cleaner weapon.
Auto trips only work if you have a full auto trigger group.
Spikes also sells Black Dog mags. They are the best.
You won't get a 10/22 to run as well as a Spikes upper. I have 3 10/22's. One is a target .22. The Lothar Walther shoots as tight as the Target .22 does.
Heres a couple of mine.

advantage with a dedicate (and why I love my Spikes upper) is that it has the proper twist rate for 22LR. 1 in 16.......while 1 in 12 and 1 in 9 can do OK, it seems to be a lot more hit and miss on if your gonna have good accuracy or not. now if your gonna shoot nothing but the 60grn subsonic 22lr ammunition, 1 in 9 will work.
