Just recently a V22 upper joined my AR-15.

I am wondering just how far the upper should be stripped for cleaning. Is it neccesary to remove the firingpin and extractor every time? Do you remove the barrel to make cleaning easier??

I am new to shooting .22LR but the gun gets really dirty after a few hundred rounds!!

Thanks for sharing your cleaning tips!

all .22's get real dirty.

take out the rear pin in the upper and strip it down. pins are uni directional so be careful. I think left to right.

I like to spray it down with brake cleaner after a liberal spray of WD-40.

I have never broken down my bolt with over 3500 rounds down the tube. I normally remove the bolt and submerge in hoppes, let sit for an hour or more and then wipe down with a rag, lube generously with mobil 1 and reinstall. Once every 1k rounds I'll run a few patches down the barrel and it usually takes 150 rounds to get the bore settled down again and grouping consistently.

Okey....

That's another way of doing it.

So if it works, don't clean it to often?

I've never disassembled the bolt, just scrub the face with Hoppe's with a toothbrush. I unscrew the handguard/barrel nut and clean the bore from the breech, and scrub the feeding ramp clean.
