I've decided to sell my Ciener kit and get a dedicated upper. I have been considering getting one from Spikes and then ran into a dilemma... I'm not sure if I should get the 16" or have a lower SBR'd and get the 5.5". Has anyone else faced this decision and what did you choose? I know it will cost me an extra $200 so I'm still deciding if it will be worth it. I just ordered my first can for a 22lr so I plan on using it on this upper. Thanks for any advice you can give. |
| I bought the 16" standard M4 upper. I figure if I grow tired of it, I could either have the barrel cut/recrowned to a shorter length, or just swap out for a short barrel. The more I shoot it though, the more I like it at 16". BTW, since the barrel is set back into the receiver, the barrel length appears as a 14.5". Compared to my 14.5" LMT, it is the same overall length. |

Man, that is sweet! And it's almost identical to what my set-up would look like except mine is a MEGA lower. Why would you have gone with a longer barrel if you didn't have to worry about subsonic? So, with a 5.5" you can get subsonic out of the federal bulk packs? |
What brand and length rail is the very bottom one?? |
I went with 5" to be safe with the federal bulk pack going subsonic in my altitude. I've heard that some will go subsonic and some wont with a 5.5" here in Utah. In other altitudes, I've heard that you can go as long as 6" with no problem shooting the federal bulk pack and keeping it subsonic. I just went shorter to be sure. |
That rig is awesome. Edited cuz I spellz like my cat. |
Shadowcop- What is your OAL for that sbr? I'm going to be using the same upper and am filling out the form 1s now. |
