I have been reading threads and sorting out info on the topic of a 45 acp build. I have alot of stuff (parts receiver etc) in the shop, with backorders on an uncertin delivery why not scratch build, maybe buy OLY bolt parts?
Thanks for the help!

That's how I got mine. I ordered the B/C and barrel from Oly, found an Oly 9mm upper receiver on EE, a CavArms MKII, a mag block and heavy buffer, and used parts in my spares box. Looks like there is another mag that will feed 45's, so a standard lower will work. Although it took a while, it was worth it. Mine is for Home Defense... and just for fun. I'm waiting for the DI or piston version to finally make it out of the womb.

There are sources for barrels other than Oly.

Thanks!
I was looking at a Douglas  45 cal pistol barrel which is 27"+, but is there a finished 45acp AR barrel avail?

I have heard there is a barrel shortage.  Blanks are in high demand for other applications?

I ordered a barrel and ejector kit from Oly Arms last week. It took about 5 days to get here. They had everything in stock.

Olympic is the only souce for ready made 45 ACP barrels.
Anything else is going to be custom.
Kurt at KKF does 45 ACP with Oly barrel extensions in any length you want.

I pieced my AR45 together since I don't like the stock Oly FA upper receiver.
The upper is RRA A4 9mm with the gas/shell defelctor but no forward assist.
Olympic barrel, bolt and ejector ordered direct from Oly.
DPMS charging handle.
Armalite .308 flash hider bored out to 1/2", it's threaded 5/8-24 like the Oly barrel.
Lower is AR45 with RRA LPK.  Grease gun magazines.  I'm using a Hahn heavy buffer.

ETA:  Oly offers 10% discount to .mil/LEO

Oly is the only maufacturer making .45 barrels, bolts and heavy carriers. I use RRA or Garrison MFG 9mm upper receivers minus the shell deflector for my builds. They make for a nice smooth upper and you can't use the FA anyway and the Oly ejectors kick the brass straight out the side so a shell deflector is not needed either. The upper receivers don't have a hole drilled for the gas tube which helps keep dirt out.

You can also make a .45 GAP AR using the above mentioned parts and use a standard AR lower with 9mm mags. .45 GAP fits in a 9mm mag but you need to tweak the feed lips a little for proper feeding. The 30-32 round 9mm mags will hold 15-17 rounds of .45 GAP.

.45 GAP is actually loaded to .45 ACP +P levels so you don't loose anything from the shorter round. I made the worlds first .45 GAP upper using a Thompson SMG barrel. I just machined a little off the rear of the barrel to shorten the chamber to .45 GAP depth. Ran like a raped ape.

You can build a .45 upper cheaper than Oly sells theirs for retail even with using some of their parts.

Thanks for all the info. I like the 45GAP and it is probably better suited for the AR application, but I have on hand about 700 to 800 rounds loaded in ACP and at least double in brass. So therefore to keep everything in budget (if there is such a thing).

This is a mock-up of the 45acp SBR build I'm working on. Wrong upper, wrong mag, but you get the idea. Kurt is doing the barrel/upper. It will use a slickside upper, and a regular lower with modified grease gun mags.

The grease gun style stock is a nice touch.

Sweet lil CQ wpn. DIG the stock. A really functional look.
The possibility of gas piston does sound good as well.
I saw the Kriss 45themillermeister.blogspot.com/2008/06/kriss-45-acp-civilian-carbine.html
It shoots full auto dead on cq to 25yd like 10" to 1000rpm.

Where did the grease gun stock and adapter come from????
Where did the DOE front sight & hand guard come from????
Both VERY neat ideas on a cool looking SBR!!!!!

I got the M231 stock from the EE. The FSB is from Garrison Mfg. The handguard/s is a one piece repro from a member here.
Below is my "widebody" FSB body to accommodate the 45 barrel compared with the 9mm Garrison FSB body.

You are not allowed to have a cooler gun than I do. Confiscation will begin immediately.

Just wait till I get my .45 GAP, Tec-9 carbine conversion finished using an M4 butt stock and railed hand guards.

Don't have my files with me overseas. The real issue is the barrel. There is no 16" tec-9 barrel so I'm looking at an adapter to use a Colt/RRA 9mm AR barrel. Might even replace the steel upper receiver tube with aluminum. For a .45 set up, I need KKF or someone else to make me a .45 barrel in the Colt/RRA 9mm style. No barrel extension like the Oly set up.

I don't know if the T9 mags will accomodate .45 Gap due to the triangle shape. Haven't had a chance to test them and see. i already have the butt stock adapter figured out.

I'll pick up a Tec-9 as soon as I finish this contract and finish the mock up.
