| I know this has been talked about before but has anybody modified one of our mags for the airforce kit? If so what mag and what needs to be done? |

I've been thinking about this, but haven't gotten started. It looks as though an M261 mag will work after trimming off some of the plastic just forward of the mag's feed ramp, where it interferes with bottom edge of the chamber adapter. The Air Force kit's chamber adapter sticks downward a bit lower than the M261's. The plastic to be trimmed isn't critical, it's just the hollow void forward of the feed ramp. The mod shouldn't weaken the mag nor prevent it from being used with the M261. A slight change in the mould, to remove that offending plastic projection, would make for dual use M261 / Air Force magazines. The real potential is to incorporate a true last shot bolt hold open into these Black Dog mags. The M261 and Air Force kits actuate the lower's bolt hold open lever, unlike the ciener kit. There is enough space within the mag body for a follower with a rearward projection which would actuate the hold open. The original factory Air Force mags already have this function, with an additional spring at the back of the mag which sort of preloads the hold open lever to be more easily engaged by the mag follower. |

Air Force .22 conversion mags. The originals feed nicely (in my experience). If you could incorporate the bolt hold open feature into the mag it would be great. My AF mag springs are too weak or the BHO spring is too strong. The last shot usually doesn't actuate the BHO. It's handy to be able to lock the bolt open - the one real advantage of the AF kit. YMMV |

I tried my air force kit yesterday with the factory mags and they do feed flawlessly. My kid was pulling the trigger as fast as he could possibly pull it and no failure to feeds. We had one round out of about 300 that we shot that had a dud primer. I just would love to be able to shoot 30 round mags which is why I wonder if I can convert one of Blackdogs. |
