I have a V22 upper which I've had for about three years - after initial problems (failure to fire - remedied with a some polishing of the bolt, stronger trigger spring) it has been really reliable and accurate but...I've got the bug for something new and I'm looking for something more "authentic" - the V22 has a straight pull action - no charging handle or forward assist.

I like the look of the Spikes upper....has anybody got any feedback on it (build quality, reliability issues, support)?

I'd also like to know if it needs any mods to the lower/trigger as I understand the barrel extends back 1.5" on the Spikes upper. I have a SGC (UK manufacturer) upper with DPMS parts kit and Jewel trigger.

Or if anybody has any alternative suggestions I'd like to hear.

Thanks in advance for your help.

So far feedback is excellent on build quality, pretty good on reliability (read the next part), and superb on support (they will take care of any reliability problems I'm sure).
No mods to standard triggers; however, I've heard that they can sometimes be finicky with jewel triggers, and sometimes not. Get it and try it, worst case scenario is that you sell the upper here for a profit (no wait time).

All of these things are designed to run on a standard, unmodified lower.

The language relating to the 1 1/2" of barrel inside the receiver relates to the fact that the boltface on the rimfire setup is that distance rearward of the boltface on a .223 setup.

For those of us here in the US, that means a 16" barrel rimfire is nearly indistinguishable externally from a 14" .223 barrel. So an M4 rimfire 16" looks just like a genuine military M4 .223 but doesn't require registration/ $200 tax stamp required for Short Barreled Rifles (SBR) here.
