hey. i just got my 9mm put together. i took it out yesterday for the first time, but i had a few problems. out of about two hundred rounds i had about ten to twenty malfunctions. i think it is failing to eject. it stovepipes and picks up another round out of the mag and tries to load it, but cant because the spent casing is still in there. i watched a friend of mine shoot it and at least 3 out of 4 rounds looked like they were only ejecting about 3-6 inches out of the gun the rest would go a few feet. i dont think it is short stroking because it locks back on an empty mag. i dont think i had any feeding problems, just the failures to eject. it happened at the same rate with all the mags and all the ammo. the gun is a rock river arms lower, upper lower parts kit and mag block, ramped bolt, 5in barrel. dpms hammer. ymh ff car tube. hk sights. cmt ch. spacer in the buffer tube to limit how far the bolt travels. mags were cproducts and promag. ammo was winchester white box and winchester 147gr sub sonics. i think i will try to replace the roll pin that holds the extractor in the bolt. i heard somone else recommend this for fte. can anyone tell me what size roll pin to use. i read a few days ago where somone posted a list with around 6-10 things to make 9mm work better. stuff like slash's buffer, the roll pin for the extractor, bolt ramping, and stuff like that. if any one knows where that list is could you post it please, i think it might help get this thing running right. if any one has any other ideas let me know. thanks

Get a 1/8" x 3/4" tension pin from Lowes.  Thats what their packaging calls it, its in the little parts bin drawers in the hardware section.

The other thing to do is make sure your ejector is riding as close to the bolt as possible, it needs to be on the virge of rubbing.  Bend it with a pair of pliers if you need to.  There isn't a very large contact area for the ejector on a 9mm case so a little play in ejector/mag block can cause problems.

+1    That should solve the ejection issues.

Try removing the spacer in your buffer tube that you installed, assuming you have a correct length 9mm or .223 buffer in your buffer tube you shouldnt need the spacer.

If that doesnt work try bending the ejector a bit more and verify the extractor is moving freely and holds the empty cases properly.

THANKS. i tried to bend the ejector. i accutaly bent it too much and the bolt would not move freely. i will remove the spacer and see if that helps. i put the spacer there to stop the bolt hold open from being broken. i guess that does not matter since the bolt hold open stopped working a few min ago. thanks i wil try to remove the spacer.

ok i took the spacer out and that may have fixed it. i was only able to fire it about 30 more times and with some questionable ammo, but it was alot better. the few fte i had could have been from the ammo. it felt very light. it has some how developed a proble with some of my 2 of my c products mags. it wont hold open on an empty mag on 2 of them. do yall think i should try to get a hahn top loading block? i guess i need the slash buffer since i had to ditch my spacer. i dont want broken bolt catches, that is if i can get the  bolt catch working. im going to try again tomorrow to see if it will run better now that the spacer is gone. thanks again for the help.

If you're using the CProducts mag, make sure you have their gen 2 followers.  They'll have a little "9mm" letters on them if they're gen 2.  If not, contact them and they'll send you replacement followers for free.

Where is the "9mm" located on the follower? Sorry for such a tard question

It's located on the bottom of the follower.  Watch the spring orientation for reassembly.

Glad things are looking up for you on your conversion.

Don't change the mag adapter out for a different one, it sounds like you have a heartbeat now.

Keep the rifle well lubed while you're breaking it in.  I recommend using winchester white box as a break-in load, it's pretty decent and reliable stuff and you can buy it fairly inexpensively at walmart.

Give us an update tomorrow if you get a chance.

going to shoot today. I'm trying to get it running for a carbine class on Monday.  I have a 10 1/2 in. LMT in 556 that I can use also.  I want to try to use the 9 mm. for half the class because it's cheaper.  Thanks for your help.

It will be a lot cheaper than 556 but if your subgun malfunctions during the class you will have an instructor and a bunch of guys pissed at you.

Have some quality time with the 9mm and be at least 1000-2000 round sure its GTG before using it for a class.

I have had FTF/FTE issues using white box winchester in my RRA 9mm SBR, so I don't use it. I thought I read post in the past and someone stated the white box are light loaded rounds.  I also had FTF/FTE issues w/it in my SW5 SBR.  I shoot wolf 9mm in both of them and have very few issues, other than its shoots dirty. I clean my guns every time I shoot them so it doesn't matter to me.

I'm willing to bet that if you switch to using modified UZI mags your problem will disappear.  I cannot get CP mags to run reliably in my AR either but my UZI mags run problem free.

thanks for the help everybody. i shot it today after a fun and exciting child safety seat class. i fired 150 rounds half winchester white box and half winchester sub sonics. i had 1 fail to feed on the second round of the second mag. no other problems no fail to ejects. it does seem to work better with the the subsonics. they seem to eject further from the gun. the white box does not eject as far and feels softer. all five c products mags also held the bolt open on the last round. i dont know why it was not doing it yesterday. i would pull the bolt back on an empty mag and it would not catch. oh well it did good today. im still going to bring it to the class. if i have trouble i will use the lmt 556. thanks again for the help i will post after the class and let yall know how it goes. do yall think i should get the heavier/ longer buffer? i hate to do any thing to slow it down when it already seems to have trouble cycling white box. thanks again.
