So i put together a new AR host in 9mm but i had some probs today.

I used a POF billet lower and a Hahn Deticated mag block and Colt magazines and a Beta-C magazine and the upper was a 5" TROS barrel and YHM FF and standard A3 9mm upper. And here is a pic of course (I added a scope later)

Anyways when slapping in a new Colt magazine I had problems with it staying locked in place. It would take me a few slaps and pulls before it would stay in. Seemed like the mag catch just wasn't locking into the magazine well enough and would slip when i tugged on the mag to make sure it was seated properly. Anyone else ever have this problem? Any ideas how to make it better?

Also for the Beta-C drum it was jaming on me, but as soon as i started putting my palm of my hand under the drum when shooting the problems went away. I think it just wasn't quite high enough in the magwell to be reliable. So when pressing up on it when firing it was perfect. Anyone else ever expeirnce this?

Did you build the lower yourself or was it a complete lower (minus the hahn block)?

For the loose mags, I would try tightening up the mag catch , one more revolution.  This should give you a bit more of the mag catch to grab/hold the mag.

Which lower parts kit did you use?

Yes i built the lower myself. I gave the mag button another turn but that didn't seem to do much. I'm not sure who made the lower parts, i think its RRA, but it was just in my parts bin. I'll try a different mag catch to see if that solves the problem though.

Try it with an Empty mag and see how it locks in.

I've had the same issue with RRA mag catches.  I’ve switched to CMT/Stag mag catches and it fixed the problem.  There is a noticeable difference between the two brands of mag catches.

Ok i messed with it a bit more. I see that it has a little play so when i pull down and to the right on the mag it looses its catch. I think i just need to pull more gently to check if its seated. It doesn't really have much of a catch to hold the magazine in place unlike when using the 5.56mm magazines. I tried a different mag catch and it seems to be working a little bit better. I'll order one of those Stag mag catches though. Thanks.

I had the same problem with my RRA, they would lock, but I could twist the mag a little and it would drop right out.  The catch wasnt deep enough in the magwell.  I replaced it with a DPMS catch and havent had a problem since.

Thanks guys ok I think the problem is the RRA mag catch for sure. I'll replace it with either a Stag or DPMS mag catch soon and do a range report. Also I have some C-Product 9mm magazines on the way to test out as well.

I'm not sure about DPMS, but I know the Stag will fix your problem.

Also, good luck with the C Products mags.  I'm on my first replacement set and I still have problems with them - not totaly reliable in any of my three 9mm carbines.  I will probably get rid of them and just stick to the good ol' modified UZI mags.  I've never had a problem with them.

Thanks, i figure i'll give C-products a chance, but if they don't work then i'll have to pony up the cash for more Colt mags.

The C-Products mags work well for me after tweaking them a little.

I had to take some material off the front of the followers as they were hitting the front of my Hahn dedicated block.

I also had to bend the ends of the springs inward as one of them poked around the side of the follower and caused the follower to seize in the middle of the magazine.

Here is a link to some good information.

After these modifications they run 100%

My problem with the C Products Mags is that the spent case and the round being fed meet in the receiver and cause a massive jam.  It happens with all four of the 32 round C Products mags in all three of my 9mm carbines.  The 22 modified UZI and 10 Promag mags function  flawlessly in all of my carbines.

Can anyone shed some light on the failure of my CP mags?
