I had an afternoon mostly off, a brick of .22 figuratively burning a hole in my pocket, and access to a nice range. Woo hoo! I packed up my 5.56mm AR, another complete lower, my new BDM M261 mags, even my spotting scope, and headed to the range. Beautiful weather, a little wind but from downrange, nobody else anywhere around-I had this particular range to myself. I set the target, ambled back to the firing line and started unpacking everything. I was figuring on shooting a couple hundred rounds with each lower, just to help smooth out new hammers. Ok, and to have a lot of fun too. So I lay out the complete AR. Then the extra lower. Then I set up the spotting scope and line it up on the target. I dig out the mags and the ammo and lay it out on the bench. Then I opened up the AR and pulled the BCG, putting it down on the nice carpet square I tote around to the range with me to put things on when I don't want 'em getting dirty. Then back to the range bag for the M261. Uh........ I...uh....left the M261 at home... It wasn't a total loss-someone had been firing .30 Carbine at that range and hadn't bothered to pick up any of his brass. But DAMN!!! The only thing I didn't have enough of was time to go home and pick up the adapter. RATS!In short, it was just "one of those days." Now that I've qualified for today's "STUPID* Award", anyone else have as boneheaded a moment? *STunningly Unsmart Person IDentified |
My buddy did that this past fall.. he was like "oh shit..." |

I always pack up my gear the night before I go to the range so I can take my time and not forget everything. The range is an hour away so I don't want to leave anything at home. I also don't mess with conversions - I get complete rifles or pistols which are more difficult for me to forget to bring. |
Matt, gotta +1 on the "pack the night before", I'm |
| thats why I like using my buddies house to shoot at .... if I forget something at home I just go in the house and ramble thru his stuff and find what I need .....and if I would have forgot my ceiner kit at hime I just would have grabbed his ammo can of 223 and shot it instead |
I do the same exact thing. Max |
