I'm looking for a 22 conversion unit but don't know which one to buy. I just want the conversion unit not the whole upper assembly. Do these units work? Do they have bugs? Are they accurate? Constructive comments welcome... Thanks GT |

Try the pistol caliber forum here But to answer your question directly, you should be getting a Ceiner unit. Mine functions 100% with federal bulk pack 22lr. Accuracy is about an 1 - 1 1/2 at 25m. After marker 30 rd mags are available from Black Dog Machine. Quite simply, it has been the best firearms purchase I have ever made. |

Some people swear by their Ciener kits. Others swear AT them. This is probably true with any and all such kits, but I've had nothing but great results with my M261 kit. At this moment there are no high-cap magazines for the M261, and it's not capable of full auto operation as a Ciener is with a few extra parts. But Black Dog Machine is about to release a 30 round M261 magazine, so that limitation is off the table. When I get an M16, I'm going to get a Ciener with the full-auto parts, in part because I can't think of anything more fun than ripping off 20 rounds of .22LR in a mag dump. Edited to fix Ciener spelling. |

go here www.ballisticsounds.com/store/index.php They sell them and hes on the forum here as well. I bought mine from him last week. |
kblagg, who is the front-man for that site, is pretty active in the .22 rimfire community on these boards. He's a good guy to deal with, can answer many of your questions, and has good prices on the BDM mags. I bought my full profile BDMs from him, and got them very quickly. |
| I'll agree get the Ciener. The biggest problems I had with Cieners was breaking firing pins and not always going back into battery. I went to RRA national match trigger group and the lakeside recoil spring and my Ceiner has become very reliable (I keep spare firing pins). I never liked the metal 10 round Ciener mags and eventually bought a DPMS dedicated upper. I bought a KKF dedicated upper and use my Ciener in the KKF. With the BDM mags and the Ciener/KKF an excellent combo. I guess I'm lucky but I've gotten good accuracy with my Ciener in my 1 in 9 twist uppers. My Ceiner will shoot about 3 inch groups at 100 yards from 16 and 20 inch uppers. Plenty good for shooting center mass type steel targets out to 100 yards. I'll agree very worth while purchase and excellent training tool and just plain fun to shoot. |

I scored one WITH a BDM yesterday and all I can say is I'm impressed! http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd48/screamingcockatoo/ciner3.jpg http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd48/screamingcockatoo/ciner2.jpg http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd48/screamingcockatoo/ciner1.jpg |
There are only two viable options these days, IMHO: Ciener and M261. These two are still in production and parts are available. Between the two I went M261, mostly because Compass Lake Engineering uses that for their dedicated uppers and I already had several magazine inserts. I'd stay away from the USAF units, the Colt/DPMS style, and the CV-22. |

+1 For the Ciener and BDM combo. I have shot 10,000+ rounds through my Ciener, and have not had to replace any of the parts, yet. Had to widen the feed lips on one of the BDM mags, after that they have run without any problems. I consistently hit 3 inch plates at 50 yards during drills. 1:9 twist 16 inch barrel. There are several threads in this section which address ammo selection, I found the Federal value packs from Wally World work the best in my setup, YMMV. The combo has already paid for itself numerous times. |
Right now I a swearing at my Ciener kit. I am running a suppressed upper, 5.5 inch dedicated barrel on an M16 lower. I am having major fte problems every other 3 rd burst. The spent case ends up jammed in between the Ciener and the top of the upper. I've called Ciener about 4 times and left messages over the last two weeks with no response (nice customer service

profile your right side feed lip back to a 45 degree angle, it'll stop that from happening. |
I am using the BDM 30 rd mags. Do I need to modify the feed lips? |

I have both a Colt unit and a 261 kit that came with 11 mags. The 261 works far better and it's run in a NOS Colt A1 upper with a 1/12 twist I bought specifically for the .22 kit. The slower the twist, the better, 1/14 is better then a 1/12 if you get lucky enough to find one of those. |
If they are the skinny mags, then 'yes' I think you do. |
Most likely yes. If you load one of the mags, chamber a round and then slowly pull the charging handle back to extract the round you will see the case hitting the right side feed lip before it hits the ejector. File down the feed lip until the case clears the top of the feed lip and you are good to go. Thanks, Brad |
I will try that. Thanks. |
