Official BDM Ciener mag review/information/video thread. (Page 2 of 8)

We'll see. I don't know how much volume you need to make it worthwhile, but I can see some real excitement in Whackyland as this gets publicity, like the Calguns.net threads. Of course, I don't care about the color particularly, as long as it is dignified. I've ordered a Spike upper and 5 mags, and there are a bunch of folks doing likewise and even more working their budgets, etc. Once some of us get to the ranges with these devices, there will very likely be some bad cases of "gotahavitz disease!" |
I thought everything in Kalifornia had to be either pink or cornflower blue? |
This means keep the BS in another thread, this thread is for reviews. |

Just got my 3 in yesterday from you. I ordered them over last weekend I believe. Are they the shorter spring models? Thanks, Jon |
|
i just got the four mags and kit i ordered from Ballistic sounds. i was just trying to load them, but they only get to about 18-19 before the casing actually dent from trying to load the mags. they have the red follower but the springs are 12" length. should i start by cutting the spring 1/2 inch? |
You can do that or just let them slowly break themselves in. |

I LOVE IT. A buddy and me had more fun blasting .22's out of my Bushy than we did shooting M193 -- and I only had one .22 Ciener mag. I will gladly help with testing, and will buy the first 10 ten-round magazines that come off of the line... -WhyTanFox (FWIW, you guys would always be in the clear -- it is up to the end-user to follow local laws. I was quite surprised to read that someone modded a Ciener factory 10-round mag to hold over 10 rounds, as I thought that the Federal AWB had some language in it to the effect that such magazines could not be modifiable. But whatever... make those magazines!!!) |

Update ,It broke the swingers at the base where they twist ,Since these mags do not jam I just repeatedly and mercilessly hammer them at 50 yards in the same spots,Our community owes Kyle & Black Dog Machine untold thanks for these mags ,Thanks guy's again for producing these and doing them right |
I have seen the discussion regarding production of a 10 round magazine for California etc, can ANYBODY export BDM magazines to the United Kingdom? I will settle for a couple of 10 round mags if that is all I can get, but a few 10 round AND a few 20 round (or whatever stated capacity to remain legal in the USA, there are no restrictions here) would make my day! All advice gratefully received. Martin |
Because of Export Laws, unless they are ordered in large quantities it wouldn't be worth going the process of getting an export license. At least it's not something that I will do at this time. Kevin at BDM might, but I doubt it honestly. |

Is it necessary to "export" them, or can one of us just ship him some? Are there export regulations on magazines? |
If you are in the business then I THINK it is required, but if one of you kind gentlemen just so happened to ship a few over there for someone as a "gift" then there probably wouldnt be any problems. |

I just received my kit and mags yesterday (thanks Kyle). Is there any ammo that I should not shoot out through it? I have a couple thousand rounds of UMC .22 that I plan to shoot in it soon. ETA: I put a few hundred rounds thru my Bushmaster with my Ciener kit and BDM mags. No malfunctions with UMC .22 ammo. |
| You can put the red follower and shorter spring in the old mags. If I remember right, it will give you 33 rounds then. |

Does anyone have a source for Hi-cap mags for the 22LR kits for a Glock ??? I got the 10rnd mags with my kit way back when.. Thanks An update, my first kit for my glock was from Advantage. Problem being they are in CA so they do not make hi-cap mags ! CRAP !! Guess I am stuck with the 10rnd mags. At least I can shoot the 27rnd BD sweet mags.. |
Tannerite Anyone ??
I know there was some talk of Kevin offering the spring/follower as a 3 pack. Not sure what he decided to do about that. Give him a call tomorrow or shoot me an email and I'll get an answer for you. |

about 900 rds through 2 full size mags, mostly through an old a1 20 in 1in12 twist upper; about 250 rds through same mags 16 in stag carbine 1 in 9--three trips to the ranges with aguila, remington cyclone and thunderbolt, winchester super x. overall impression--took a bit to break in but worked more reliably as time went on. today, i alternated 5.56 and 22lr between the two rilfes and had three of the 22lr ammo types. overall, i had less problems today than the first two trips, probably since the mags are broken in. the remington ammo (both lead round nose) caused most problems for both failure to go into battery and ftf. a few aguila jams. winchester super x worked best for feeding, cycling, accuracy. very rarely would ammo make a difference in feeding with the ciener 10 rd mag. still, remington did the worst of the ammo i have shot with the kit. bottom line: i just bought 5000 rds of winchester super x 40 gr and will buy more bdm full size mags. |

I just tried my Ciener and BDM out this past weekend. Great products. I figured out how to speed load the BDM. I took the follower and drilled a hole in it and put a small nylon string through it and hung it out the bottom of the mag. I also had to bore a hole in the spring retainer for the string to fit through. Now All I do is pull the string and the follower is pulled down and I just drop 22's in the mag. |
Two magazines received in the mail today, 12 November. As has been noted before now, finish and quality is excellent. They will be function tested on 17-18 November. Many thanks to those who have assisted in the delivery of what may be the first BDM units in the UK. Regards Martin |

For those of you who have both the fullbody and older skinny mags, can you tell if the plastic is the same material? Seem to be molded from the same stuff?? I ask because while I LOVE the old skinny mags I have, the plastic is brittle and god help-you if you get solvent on it (melts). I've already broken the feed lips on 2 of my mags. Would like to know they're maybe a bit tougher before dropping the dime. |
If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies. But, I still can't get away with calling anyone fucking douchebag. Much to do.
Interesting; is CLP plastic-safe? Anyone melt the feed lips using an over-lubed Ciener kit? FWIW, I got my ten 10-rounds mags in last week. This past saturday I put about 100 Aguila Colibri through seven of them -- hand-cycling the action -- and had good results. I hope to get to a range next weekend to try 'em with "real" ammo. -WhyTanFox |

Immediately upon opening the box, I was very pleased with the quality of the magazines. I will definitely be buying more! The feed lips have very squared edges/corners... Which is hell on the thumbs, along with the stiff springs. (Please make a mag loader!) ... For a home remedy on the edges, I think some fine sandpaper could be put to the lips just enough to make them comfortable - Just be careful of what and how much you sand. I loaded up all six of my magazines today, in hopes that they will be a bit easier to load next time. I could fit anywhere from 22 to 27 in the mags, but I expect that they will all be at 27rds after a few days. I also found that my Ciener kit apparently hates Remington GB and loves CCI Mini-Mags.
Anyone know? I sure hope there are no issues there, as CLP is the "shiznit." |

I received my Spike's M4gery upper and a supply of BDM CA legal 10 round mags the other day. I assembled a lower last night, and got it all put together, so I took it to the range this evening on the way home. I am pleased to report that I shot 100 rounds, flawlessly. The BDM mags fed without a hitch or burble, and the gun went bang every time I pulled the trigger, except on the 11th pull each mag. The bolt doesn't lock back after the last round, which I thought it might. My 10/22 doesn't either. I had only the iron sights, and did not try to zero it or anything. All 100 shots hit the paper, quite nicely actually. I used a rear sight from another M4gery I have, so it ought to have been close, and was. I'll get it zero'd in and fit the EOTech I have to it. This is going to be so much fun! I stopped off at Walmart afterwards and bought 2 cartons of Federal ammo. It's a plain M4 type, nothing fancy or tacticool particularly. |
|
I ran a bunch of Remington golden bullets and Federal 510 bulk pack through my new Ciener kit with a BDM full-size mag last weekend. The Federal was 100%, but the Remington gave me a failure to chamber for the first two rounds almost every single time. Pulling back and briskly letting the cocking handle fly forward only managed to jam the rounds in and bend the bullets in the case some. Not a big issue, as I have lots and lots of Federal, plus the situation may change as things break in. Also, I noticed that (using the big aperture hole) I had to adjust my rear drum from 8/3 to about 4.5 to be on target at 50 yards. ( I am using IBSZ). Overall, I am very pleased with it, though. Definitely worth it and the BDM mags are great! |

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/SUBWOFER2/AR/MyARsetupwithcienerkitand37mmlaunch.jpg?t=1195448193 I just purchased a used Ciener kit (500 rounds) and it arrived last week. The 1st night the kit arrived I field stripped it and cleaned it really well. I also disassembled the black dog mags and removed all the powder residue with 409 and paper towels. This morning I tossed the kit into the oven to prep it for dry lube. I coated it with Remington dry lube, reassembled and installed into my AR. At the family friends range I finally got some trigger time. All shots today were fired from ~25yrds. My 1st 5 shots spread about 4" across. I was bummed but decided I'd try again. I continued to fire paired shots at 3 separate targets. The groups closed nicely. I attached 2 target pictures, 10 shots and 60 shots. The target with 60 was 10 shots fired in pair. The additional 50 were rapid fire with the high cap mags. 20 from the new style BDM and a full 30 from the old style. I had one FTF with the 30 rounder and no other failure using the 27 or the 10 round Ciener mag. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/SUBWOFER2/AR/10shots25yds.jpg?t=1195448215 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/SUBWOFER2/AR/60shots25ydsw_dime.jpg?t=1195448339 Anyway, wanted to share. This kit make shooting this rifle even more fun than before. I'm worried I'll shoot it too much since I don't feel guilty about the cost of ammo. I bought another 3 new style BDMs from 44MAG.com. The guys over there have every color in stock (Gray, Clear, Smoke and Black) including the 10 rounders. ALL ON SALE for only $27.99. Spend over $100 and shipping is included. I also bought a few springs, followers and a new CProducts dry film, stainless spring and Magpul follower ($9.99). THANKS BLACK DOG MACHINE!! |

Here is my Spike's Upper, the M4gery, in .22LR rimfire. http://i4.tinypic.com/8ftqryf.jpg As reported above, it fired flawlessly from the get-go. I'm taking it out tomorrow to see if the flawless operation continues, and sight it in. I've added an EOTech to zero in as well. |
|
I shot another couple hundred rounds this afternoon at the outdoor range, and everything went very smoothly, except I did experience 3 failures to eject. The feeding and firing was good enough, but near the end, 3 cases got caught before they were ejected. What might cause this? |

Is anyone haveing trouble with the feedlips breaking on the old style BDM's in cold weather? I've had three loaded mags in my range bag for several weeks, today I grabbed the bag and went to shoot. Upon opening the bag There was about 20 22lr rounds in the bottom of the bag. One had a feedlip broke off and the ammo was falling out. Maybe I shouldn't be leaveing them loaded but I'm kind of dissapointed. ETA: After looking the mags over I saw a hairline crack in another one and as soon as I started loading it it broke off in the same exact place as the first. Is this a common problem with them? If so I am scared to load the others I bought that I haven't used yet. |
Contact Kevin at BDM about the feedlips breaking. He has been making it right. |

That sucks, I was actually looking to see if you would be there, but I didn't see this post till today. I didn't see any of mags there otherwise I would have picked some up. |

I tested 5 BDM (Full Size, Smoke Colored) Today. Ran each mag twice, once with hi-velocity Remington, and once with Remington Subsonics. The mags ran flawlessly, with the exception of a coule FTF and FTE's. (probably the kits fault) I also tested the mags a few days ago with Aquila Mexican Hyper-Velocity Ammo. (flawless results) I have yet to clean or lube my kit, and I dropped it right into my AR without any cycling or polishing. (so far so good!) Thanks BlackDog! |
