My order shipped on monday, should be here today or tomorrow I'd imagine. I'll do some testing on the range in my basement with a few diff kinds of ammo when they get here. I'm excited if you can't tell...

man, I can't find an olympic RFA kit anywhere. MidwayUSA had the ETA listed as 1/7/08 until yesterday when it was changed to 2/8/08...hey *edit: Even better, midway now shows no ETA whatsoever. Great. |

Got to play with the mags today. Results are as follows (only shot one mag of each type of ammo): Winchester Dynapoints: Lots of failure to feeds. Most only nosed into the "barrel" part of the 261 kit and bent/mangled the nose of the bullet, but a few of the rounds were straight up and down in the rifle and had a large dent in the side of the bullet casing, making them un-fireable (had 3 of those out of one mag). Remington Golden Bullets: One failure to fire which fired the second time I tried it, but other than that, I had one shot after the other as fast as I could pull the trigger. Federal bulk pack: No failures at all and nothing but a smile on my face after shooting a mag full of 'em. I'm very happy with the new mags. Great job, guys. |

Great update! I've never been impressed with the Dynapoints, and the bulk of my stash is Rem GB. I've got some of the new mags coming in this week as well and will take them for a spin this weekend. Thanks again to BlackDog/Kevin for taking on this project... you da man! |

I just got my magazine this morning; now I want that M261 kit all the more. This magazine looks and feels higher quality than most poly .223 mags I've seen. All of Kevin's work really paid off. This is one damn fine looking piece of equipment. If it feeds as good as it looks, I'll be saving a lotta $$ on .223 this summer. Thanks! Update: So, I noticed that an 800# for olyarms was embossed on the BDM mag, so I called them directly, and they said they can send me an M261 kit in about a week! I don't know why I got such a different response through email, but I'm happy as long as I get my kit. |
I just thought it was strange the Dynapoints didn't feed in the new mags but they do just fine in the old M261 10-round mags. Since they're subsonic out of my 16" barrel I was hoping for the ability to shoot a LOT of subsonic ammo out of it at a time. That's okay, though, as it's still a lot more fun/economical to shoot .22 out of it than the .223 right now. It's just painful to blow through $10 worth of ammo with every .223 mag. 50 cents worth of ammo in .22 is a lot nicer on the wallet. |

WHOOOHOOOO guess what showed up today! Off to the range! A cursory examination of these mags gives a very positive impression. They feel very hefty and look solid. If the plastic is not prone to breaking down or chipping over time, I would say that the build quality is superb. |
 RANGE REPORT!Firstly, thanks to Kevin/BlackDog for making this happen. Secondly, let me preface my report by mentioning that I run 2 m261 dedicated uppers, both based on Compass Lake Engineering barrels. The CLE barrels have .22lr chambers and require that the .223 chamber adapter on the m261 kit be removed and replaced with a small tab that locks the kit in place. When using the BDM mags in these uppers, I had to file the trivialist amount of material off of the left outside lip to allow the mags to seat without excessive force. The same mags, prior (and after) to their shave, seated fine in standard uppers with unmodified m261 kits, as the stock kits have a bit of rotational give that the CLE eliminates. .22s are notorious for being uniquely picky, and the particular upper I took today runs best with CCIs and the cheap Rem GBs (my favorite), not so well with Federal anything and lowered powered stuff. That trend didn't change with BDMs, CCIs were 100%, Rem not far behind and Federal and Winchester lagged a bit as expected. Started off with a clean and fairly wet upper and ran 50 rounds of CCI Mini-Mag through it from standard m261 mags to confirm everything was in order. Then, using 2 BDM mags, I started off with 5 rounds each, then 10, then maxed, using CCI Mini-Mag, Remington GB, Winchester Dyna-Points, Federal Bulk and Federal Target. The only mag related problems I had were occasional instances where a round was fed too high and nosed into the top of the chamber. This is a huge difference from the earlier beta mags that tended to pile into the bottom. I was very happy to find that the mags ran equally well when loaded to any capacity!! I'm looking forward to getting some more range time in with the mags and testing them in a stock upper/m261 kit as well as testing a few tweaks to see how close to 100% I can get them with my CLE's. Fit and finish wise, they are fantastic... and overall they sure beat the hell out of original 10 round inserts!  |

Range Report from Wipeouts Basement. I've been messing around with the two mags kevin sent me for about two weeks now. Initial impressions are that they are very well made. The quality of the plastic is above what I was expecting. It is more of a PMAG type plastic then a butler creek type 10/22 mag plastic. I greatly appreciate the provisions provided for disassembling the mag as the blow back is causing quite a bit of powder residue and lead/copper bits and pieces falling into and around the magazine. Function testing as done with federal bulk pack and winchester bulk pack. Initially I was not impressed with the magazines as I could not get one of them to feed reliably. It would feed fine when loaded with 15 or fewer rounds, but anymore than that there would be round after round of FTF's which consisted of the round being pushed nose first into the top of the upper. To clear this would require the mag to be removed and the action to be cycled. The ejected round was bent almost 90 degrees at the crimp. I am going to attribute this to the mag just needing to be broken in as now with almost 2K rounds through it, it has smoothed out quite a bit. I only have the occasional FTF with it. The other mag I received functioned fine straight out of the package. Overall I am very impressed with these mags and they are a huge improvement over the factory 10 round inserts. Aside from the initial break in that I went through on one mag, and the occasional found I still get that will not feed, I have had a very positive expirence with these. If you are looking into getting an M261 kit just remember the intricacies of the 261 kit. It likes to be run very wet. If you are getting a lot of FTF's and ejection problems, you probably need more lube. I was at the point where my kit ran so dry it would lock open on a full mag (who says the m261 doesn't have BHO?  ). I can see a dedicated .22 AR in my future. The powder residue and fouling that I cleaned out of my gun last night is not something I want to be doing on my go to AR every week. Thank you Kevin and Bruce. These were worth the wait. |

Is that the BDM Ciener version, or the BDM M261 mags? I just searched and I couldn't find any BDM products other than the BDM Atchisson mags. |

I got mine yesterday thanks to Racheal@Blackdog. Took them to the range this morning, all 4 ran 100%. Awesomness. I did notice with some older ammo I had that was tarnished, that it was harder to load when the mag got to 20rnds. But new ammo loaded fine, I'll just make sure I don't let me ammo tarnish. LOL. |

I bought one to try out. On my first range trip my insert split in two ( link to kaboom ). On that range session I was only able to run about 275 rounds. On this mag I had to remove about .020 from the front of the ramp were it touches the barrel insert to allow the mag to seat fully and the latch to lock. For the first hundred rounds I was disappointed. Jam o'matic. I found the front ramp was too high causing the rounds to shoot up into the top of the chamber insert. After a really good inspection the chamber insert feed ramp was fully covered by the mag ramp. I took a fine file and remove about .040" to .050" from the top area of the feed ramp. I hit the range Saturday with this mod and a new chamber insert. 400 or so rounds though this same mag with about 90% reliability (although this thing got pretty dirty and I am to lazy to clean and lube correctly) Monday I ordered 2 more and just got done modifying them as well. I'll post results from my next session. I plan on putting 300 rounds per mag. Samuel |

Where are these available for online order? Any word yet on the possibility of reduced capacity mags? A 10 or 15 rounder for places like NJ would be fantastic. On another note, how well do the M261 inserts work when placed in a thirty round body with no follower, and spring only? I'd like to take mine to Jersey to play a little bit. Thanks, ~Augee |

Kudos to Kevin ! I ordered a M261 kit with the BDM mag from Oly Arms. Mag wouldn't come close to seating in my stock BM Superlight. Got some e-mail back and forth with Kevin, and then I rang him up (he wasn't at work and still took my call on his cell). In about 2 minutes we got to the crux of the matter. I removed material from front/rear of the top of the mag as directed and got a very tight fit in my BM. Will test out at the range ASAP. Excellent customer support. *EDIT* Mag functioned flawlessly for 30 rounds when tested today. *EDIT* Barry |
| I got my 261 mag today for my bushmaster 22 upper nice mag just a few mods made it work a top i had to open up the top of the mag to let the rim of the 22 bullet set a little higher so the bolt would take the bullet out of the mag, and i had to take some of the feed ramp off so that the bolt would close all the way, but for rapid fire i could only put 15 rounds in the mag if you filled it all the way up it would jam up unless you slow fired it |

I got my mags, wow they feel like a tank, very sturdy. oh ya, supper fast shipping I think it was like 3 days. I filed the tops down as instructed by BDM to get them to fit, not a big deal. it was only about one millimeter or less I had to take off. then some of them needed the ramps filed, some of them really did not have much of a feed ramp left. out of the seven I got 4 to work well, I went to my local range and started to test them. Out of the four I brought 2 work well enough to use, but those two did not work that well I had A LOT of FTF and and good about of FTF and some FTE. with my bushmaster mags they worked almost flawlessly. I am hoping some one else had these problems and knows how to fix them. maybe I need to file them down more but I am reluctant to do so. if I do not hear anything from you guys I will give BDM a call. P.S. this is not a insult to BDM or the MAGS I am just trying to put out my range report and try to get some good info the a solution to my problem. I really love my .22 LR and I was really exited to hear about the new mags. |

I will suggest to those with FTF issues, try taking a needle file and some emory cloth to the lower edge of the M261 insert chamber mouth. It is usually the place the rounds hang while feeding. A while back, I was a beta tester for Kevin and I tried a half dozen ideas to get the mags to feed 100%, but it wasn't until I made the ramp of the mouth opening about .010 lower, and blended that into a more gradual ramp into the chamber that things fed 100% reliable. I've now shot about 900 rounds through three BDM M261 mags with this mod to my chamber insert, and I've have 2 malfs so far. I would blame that on the bulk Federal and Remington I shoot. Now my kit feeds and ejects 25 rounds as fast as I can pull the trigger. YMMV. |

if you have a set of needle files (round and oval) and some patience to clean up your filing with some emory cloth, it's only about a 15 min job. You only want to lower the leading edge of the chamber mouth, and blend it as it rises into the chamber so the edges of the brass cases don't hang on the ledge. |

I ordered 3 of these Magazines from Kevin a few months ago for a Buddy. Turned out he had a Colt Conversion so they didn't work out for him. Been trying to find an M261 or Oly Conversion for months. Pretty bad to buy Conversions for the Magazines I had but I want to compare it to the Cieners I've been using. Anyway I had set up a notification E-Mail with Midway when they received stock. I got that Notification Friday very early and made my order about an hour and a half later. The Oly Conversions should ship tomorrow morning and I should have them by Mid Week. I'll try Federal and Remington Bulk next weekend and then do a basic comparison, Oly to Ciener. Wish me luck, THX SO-13 |

Finally got around to ordering 3 of the production mags, and finally got out to try them. All three mags were very tight fits and had to be slapped firmly to seat. The first two mags ran fairly well with Federal Walmart Bulk. A few misfeeds but these might sort out. The third mag was a jam-o-matic, it gave a LOT of rounds fed vertically into the chamber area, requiring a complete clearing. It would do this several times in a row, in the middle of the mag (all mags were loaded to only 20-22 rounds). I also had at the range the two Beta test mags I'd used before. These worked fine with the Fed Bulk. I then tried Rem Golden Bullets in one of the two new mags that worked fairly well with the Fed Bulks. This was a disaster, with EVERY round going vertical in the chamber. After 7 or 8 of these in a row I took the hint and emptied this mag by hand. I then refilled the five mags on hand with 20-22 rounds each of Fed Bulk and shot another hundred rounds. Had several more feed failures of various kinds including the verticals. I'm going to try breaking the lower edge of the chamber feed ramp, as described above, and also perhaps polishing the inner sides of the feed lips, and see how that works. I'd really like to get these mags running with the REM GBs, as they are most accurate in this rifle, but on the other hand Walmart just raised the price of these almost $2 a box, so I guess I'll be doing most of my shooting with the Fed Bulks anyway. Forgot to mention that the 261 unit had been cleaned and freshly lubed just 100 rounds ago. |
