I posted my version of a spool type loader under the "string method". Well i just got it back together and it works GREAT !!! Put the allen wrench in the cap screw and it's a breeze loading the mag. No tampon string hanging out !! lol. I forgot to count how many rounds it took. I know that because of the washers on the inside, a few rounds will be lost. I'll take a count and let you know. If i can figure out how to post pics here, i'll post them. BTW, i used 50lb test braided fishing line. It takes up hardly any space on the spool.

This may be a stupid question, but maybe I just don't totally understand.

I understand that you have a string attached to the bottom of the mag follower that is wound on a spool at the base of the mag.

Have you shot it yet? I would guess (unless I am seeing this totally wrong) that any resistance on the follow will make it miss-feed when firing....

Am I missing something?

I love the idea...I just need more info on exactly how it works.

I know what you mean about the resistance. I haven't shot it yet, tomorrow morning i hope. The spool spins pretty freely when the mag is put back together. I also put a little light grease where the follower travels. Guess i'm hoping that the spring is strong enough to overcome any slight resistance there is. I'm a tinkerer so if it won't feed i can just take out the spool and go with the string method or just load it normally. Will post the results of the trial firing tomorrow.

I hope it does work...it's a great idea.

Keep us up to date.....I am interested in hearing what you find.

Remember, we like lots of pics

Just got back from the range. The first mag i did this to worked well. I had to make sure that the nose of the round was pointing upward after i loaded around every 10 rounds. Seems as though at times they were pointing either somewhat level or slightly downward which prevented them from chambering. 1st one seemed to get better after the fourth loading. The second mag i'll have to take apart and see what the prob might be. After loading around 15 rounds, they didn't want to point upwards enough to chamber. I'll try it again and post the results here. So far with the first mag, i'm pleased. I'll keep tinkering around and tweeking to try and get it right. It is a breeze loading this way so i hope my experimenting works out.

i would shy away from any petroleum based grease as they have a tendency over time to make plastic brittle. try a silicon based lube instead

After thinking about it, i did use silicon on it. Seemed to help too.
