I just ordered a RRA 9MM upper and was wondering what ammo works best. I am new to the pistol calibers so you know these might be tempermental. Thanks for the feedback in advance.

WWB has worked great in mine.  Yellow box Remington seems a bit underpowered and didn't always cycle the bolt and eject the spent round when my upper was new.  I now have about 5K through it and it seems to work okay with the Remington.

I ran CCi Blazers (al case), alot of Magtech and some HPs thru mine new OA K9 upper.  it like them all.  i mostly shoot FMJ thru my autoloaders since they usualy give me the lease greif.

I just test fired my K45.  It didnt like the WWB "personal proection" 230 JHP.  wouldnt chamber one round of it.  it did like the Magtech FMJ and the Blazer (al case) came in 2nd.  My first mag was the Blazer and it took them fine. after that it would only feed the blazers if the mag was -2 rounds of the 10.  i would still consider the upper not broken in yet so  im going to give it a good cleaning/lube and try again.

If youre going to shoot HPs thru yours, i would get a couple boxes of each and try them.  some guns can be picky

Hey bro I been using this avitar since I got here in 2003. From time to time I switch off yet its been fine so far. I really have no problem sharing yet it seems each time we meet up you seem upset. If it bothers you I can switch.

Cant we all get along. HE HE HE

Back to the original question.

I have a Colt 9mm carbine and it eats anything I throw down it's throat.  It loves ball and hollow point ammo as well.  I do only use quality, name brand ammo.

I've found the WWB Valu Packs to be pretty dirty but it runs fine. I've had good luck with PMC.

I haven't found 9mm ARs to be tempermental at all.  Mine eats whatever I throw at it, including (gasp) Wolf.

I've shot:
Winchester white box
wolf
UMC
silver bear
gold dots
9mm NATO stuff that ammoman sells

Nothing seems to choke it.

since 9mm has been going up, and i shot the 1,000rds that i was hoarding, i tried silver bear 9mm in my RRA and my MP5, and it shot great.  it is a little dirtier but it shot great, its cheap too.   I have a bunch of subsonic fiocchi but i'm saving it for the supressor i'm buying some day.

no problems with
CCI aluminum blazer 115gr
Wolf 9mm 115gr
winchester WB 115 (not very accurate)

other people have had problems with the aluminum cases cracking in the AR 9mm's. supposedly bushmaster (colt copy..in plastic) has a warning about this ammo)

So from what you guys are saying I am in for some good range time or what ever. Sounds like a plan. I've been hearing good things here about ammo yet are there any issues I need to be aware of with the system I purchased or is it as simple as .223\5.56?

ditto, i got a colt 9mm carbine also, without ever a problem of it being picky or finicky, never had an issue, and i've been using the cheap walmart winchester 9mm luger. 100 for 12bucks.   love it.

I've ran WWB, Mag Tech, PMC, UMC, Federal AE, Federal M882 and Blazer Brass through my RRA w/o issues.

I shoot mostly Mag Tech and WWB from it though, I find the Mag Tech to be cleaner, the WWB leaves a lot of unburnt powder in the lower that the Mag Tech doesn't.

I have a 9mm upper from RRA with a Hahn dedicated block.  My eats everything I feed it except aluminum cased blazer.  So for plinking, I use the next cheapest thing.  My "Good" ammo for it is speer gold dot 147 grain HP.

For my RRA upper I've been reloading 6.9 grains of AA#7 under 147 grain copper plated bullets. Really knocks those steel plates down at fun shoots!
