I bought an OLY 9 mm upper and love the way it runs, got a decent deal and it was LNIB but I don't know how old it is. It has a plain barrel with a grove around the end of the barrel. Was this for some kind of clamp on break or compensator? Is there anything available out there or do I have to have the barrel threaded?
I want the gun to be faster for plate shoots and other playing.Am I correct in my thinking any compensator has to be "permanent" to be legal.
What brand is anyone useing on 9mm?
Thanks

The barrel on yer Oly 9mm upper is of the post ban style, it uses the "standard" Oly looking muzzle brake, except it is a 9mm. YOu can give Oly a call and they can ship one out to you(very small cost).

I took a post ban Oly 5.56 muzzle brake and opened up the front end so I could use it on a 9mm, worked out no prob.

Not sure about CT AW laws, but threading yer barrel would be a snap, Oly has two different thread pitches it uses for their 9mm barrels,  1/2x28tpi and 5/8x24tpi., as with the above a 5.56 could be opened up for use on the 9mm with the 1/2x28tpi... or Oly has a 5/8x24tpi Flash suppressor avaialble.  We charge $40 a barrel for threading here at SNS, however, Any decent machine shop can thread this for you, being CT... Im sure you have lots to choose from

The Oly muzzle break for the post ban guns has 4 set screws. I have one on my 9mm. I used locktite and no problems.

Thanks,Bobk48, this is the upper I got from you,I shot it friday at a pistol caliber carbine plate shoot and it runs great. Some of the guys with RR and colt guns seem to take special pleasure in bad mouthing the oly setup but not all of their guns ran as well as mine!

thats something you'll see a  lot of.... Colt style 9millies having problems left and right... while the Oly style runs like a champ... time and time again.   Look at the "problem/help" threads here in the pistol cal area..... 10 out of 10 are Colt/RRA related... "broke this" "broke that" "can't get this to work right", "what extra parts do I need to buy", etc.

You don't see that with Oly Arms style pistola caliber uppers/rifles

SNS, your right! The Oly's reliability in my eyes has been flawless. I have 9000 rounds through mine. I have abused my  9mm on purpose. Put reloads, Wolf, UMC, Win white box, Gold Dots, 9mm Nato with no FTF, FTE.

nhsport,  Joel Iam trying to rearrange my work schedule so I can attend the ARFCOM shoot at Blue Trail. If I can make it, I'll bring my 9 and you can try a compensated gun and see if there is any difference.

Yes BobK,I would be interested in a side by side shootoff of the two 9mm's . I am not able to pick up a gun and compare it well to one I shot several days or weeks ago but a side by side is the way to go.
I do have my club range available so if you don't get to blue trail april 9th I will track you down and get you
to my range. I belong to The New Haven Sportsmens Club. It has a really nice range but I am unable to bring in large numbers of guests, but one at a time is fine.Seems like I owe you a little shooting and a lunch for all the help you gave me getting set up with the oly 9.The  club would be a bit of a haul for you,it is in north Guilford, about 5 miles east and south of blue trail but we should make a go of it one day.
On the reliability issue of the colts and RR guns,I wonder if it is because of the design or the fact that many of the guns are "parts" guns put together by god only knows who with odds and ends parts and odds and ends mags and mag systems.
The Oly I got from you Bob has run perfect with the one Oly converted mag (with welded block) and the other sten mags I got from you have worked fine with the slip in mag block (although the different mag release is a pain to remember, simple nussance , not a real problem). I purchased 10 more sten mags for under $5 each shipped. (just because I could) Of the 3 or 4 I have taken the time to clean all but one worked fine, one had buggered feed lips.It could be messed with and fixed but for $4.95 why bother.I did learn to look at the feed lips before takeing the time to clean the cosmolene off ! I have even tried to chop some of the springs to ease the reloading, they still work fine but I need to mark all my mags with something so I can track which ones are what.Reminds me that I have 6 or 7 more mags
sealed in a can with some mineral spirts that I need to finish cleaning.

nhsport, sounds good to me! I have had good luck with magazines I got from Tapco and also Ernie at Socom MFG. Boy they  sure are greased up. So far I have not had to bend, fold, or otherwise mutilate any magazine or tinker with buffers, failures to feed or extract . My Oly is filthy and yet it works just fine. I'm glad that your Oly has run as well as mine.

I have some magwell blocks that use the standard mag release button, the STEN mags do need to "notched" for the AR mag catch though. there are some pics floating around here on one of the pistol cal threads(40s+w conversion?)... check'em out..... I think you'll like them.
