Forum, What is the difference between the AR15 version of the Ceiner 22lr conversion kit and the M16 conversion kit? Side note- My AR kit constantly jams. Completely unreliable in an AR. Just bought a 16, thinking about getting the 16 version. Tacticalsmurf |
So long as you have the "trip bar" and the "bounce weight"....... It takes 2 more pieces to make the AR kit run auto with M16...... and no, it does not work with a Lightning Link/Auto-Connector, only with DIAS or GI sear. |

Tacticalsmurf, I have a dedicated upper made by kuehlprecisionfirearms.com/. Kuehl does not use the chamber adapter as the barrels are made specifically for 22 rimfire. The Kuehl upper seems to be more reliable (based on readings of others from past discussions) than a Ciener conversion kit. At the same time, you will definately have greater accuracy with the Kuehl upper over a Ciener kit used with the 5.56mm barrel. To address your reliability issues, click on the following links for making a Ciener kit more reliable: www.funsupply.com/Firearms/ciener.html www.triplebreakproducts.com/Ciener/tips.htm I have no experience with the CZ or the DPMS uppers, so I cannot offer first hand experience. But, I do believe they work only in semi auto and possess 10 round mags. Owners of them seem to be very satisfied. Currently, the Ciener conversion is the only company offering full capacity magazines (30 round). This and the fact that it's made for full auto was the reason I purchased the Kuehl dedicated upper. In my opinion, it's a must have. For more info and pics, click on my webpage: home.netcom.com/~uzisubgun/id3.html Dan |
Mine did at first, too. It would throw the spent casings up into the upper receiver, where they would get stuck and require the removal of the unit to clear the jam. What I found was that the magazine lips were acting as an ejector, causing the spent casing to be thrown up instead of out. I carefully filed the lips, a few strokes at a time, until the unit was reliable. Since doing that, it's run pretty close to 100%. |

Here's what I did: I cut the Orlite magzine feed lips off matching the same angle of the Ciener mag. You need to "sandwich" the Ceiner mag body between layers of cardboard. The layers of cardboard must be cut to make a TIGHT fit inside the Orlite mag body. So tight that you really have to push on it. It should be a tight fit side to side and front to back. The Orlite mags swell a bit once it has been inserted. I cut the springs down to a couple of coils so the floorplate is kept in place. You can use a couple strips of duc tape to keep the cardboard aligned as you insert everything into the Orlite mag. I like using cardboard as it will not trap moisture against the Ciener mag and it is removeable. This works extremely well with 30 round Ciener mags. The 10 round mags do not fit as tight, but it does work well. Dan |

Dan0341, Since you seem to be the 22 guru, I would appreciate your input on getting a 22 upper. Here is the setup that I am working with; one M16 receiver and one AR15 receiver. I want to find a setup that will have the option of full-auto fun, yet have semi-auto accuracy. I need a conversion that I have the option to put on/in the AR lower when I go to a friends house in a state that does not allow RR's. 30 round+ mags are a must. Right now all I have is an Ceiner AR15 conversion with 3/30-round mags, as the M16 lower is a new purchase. I will sell the Ceiner AR15 conversion in favor of a better setup. Thanks for your help, Tacticalsmurf |

I would purchase the Kuehl dedicated upper (the one I have for my M16) that uses a modified Ciener conversion. It's not cheap, but you'll be very happy with the reliability and accuracy. This greater accuracy is due to the 1 in 16 twist and proper bore size. Also, there is no chamber adapter which allows the barrel to sit further into the upper receiver giving it the NFA look. Very convenient if you want to switch between AR15 and M16 lower receivers legally. All you need to do to make your Ciener AR15 conversion work in full auto is to purchase two additional parts: (1) Automatic Trip (2) Anti Bounce Weight. You can buy these two additional parts from Rick Kuehl. At the same time, send him your AR15 conversion and he will modifiy it to fit the upper you buy from him. Check out his website (that I had posted in a previous reply) as I think he charges a fee for this. When you go to use the Kuehl M4 style upper on your M16, add the trip and weight. When you use it on your friend's AR15 lower, remove the trip and weight and you're good to go. Of course, the barrel meets the 16 inch length requirement to use on an AR15. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing. To me, the Kuehl upper is a "must have." Dan |

TacticalSmurf I have a anti bounce weight and trip that came with my kit that I'll never use. If you want to have them I'll send them to you for $5.00 shipped (basicly the cost of mailing them to you). Good luck on your project, my ceiner kit in my AR is a great low-dough fun shoot. |
