What follows is a duplicate of posting to another thread but it relates to the VM unit particularly so I thought I'd place the verbiage here as well:
I 've got the VM unit also. I also have an Uzi so I wanted 100% swappable, unmodified mags. That was not to be. I've got 20 or so Uzi mags of various makes and round capacity. To get any mags save one to fit, I had to file out the side-to-side metal inside the lower end of the VM unit. Any mags that are the least bit tight in the Uzi don't fit into the VM unit. After filing the VM unit, about 8 or 10 mags go in okay and four (3, 25 rd and 1, 32 rnd) work real well, and half a dozen or so still don't fit. I've tested the fit of the VM unit in three mil spec lowers and in all cases it clamps in nicely - holding the mag catch firmly. The takedown pin is really hard to push out after the VM unit is installed so I use an old toothbrush handle ground to 1/4" as a pin-push tool. The VM unit does not fit a non-mil spec billet lower that I have. The VM unit is not perfect, but for the cost and the fact that it leaves the mags unaltered, it's a compromise. Since I have 9 mm as a second upper to go with the 5.56/.223 upper, I'm okay with what I have and how it works. Shooting wise, no issues at all. Best of luck whatever you decide. The original magwell opening was not cut to the std UZI dimension found on the the UZI as we all know and love... so I had to spend some time with a file to make the block take the UZI mags the same as any Uzi out on the market. I still have the block, and My Uzi I bought in March of 1988, so I get dual use out of my plain old everyday UZI mags, the money I would have spent having mags cut bought me a magblock, and my mags work as intended in my and others UZI. |
Well I did the mods to the block that were done by the two folks that posted photos. Filed the radius in the block deeper and flied the mag catch so it was thinner at the bottom. Mags fit great until you let the bot close. Then the mags fall out. The downward pressure forces them out  .

The 25 round uzi mags(web on the back) fit perfect and stay in. The thirty rounders that you dont have to pound in fall out if you touch them. The upper will not close on the lower with the block installed, bolt open or closed. They are 2 piece design now |

| Of the three I have in my house at the moment the newest one sent was in the best condition. Unfortunately it is the one that fit the mags the worst (wouldn't lock the mag in place). Only block takes the mags like it should. I will be returning the other two and complaining to brownells yet again. I'll be grabbing some alumahyde to spray it once I get everything fit and running nicely |

Sounds about right... ugh... I have become really dissapointed with brownells over this issue. I am going to keep the one magblock that fits my mags right as I mentioned in my other post. For some reason only one has the mag release in the right spot for the mags I have. Its all very weird.

| The ones where the mags popped out... was it because they mag release wasn't clamping into the slot? If so, it appears to be because of the placement of the feedramp block. It seems to be a touch low on the two that are a no go for me with my mags. Of course... the one that works well with my mags is also the one with the ejector that wiggles and makes noise. I need to shim it now... |

sounds like I got lucky
finish was fine on mine mags were tight but a little filing and high grit (I think I used 320) sandpaper took care of that without making the mags loose in the block. even the couple of mags that fit ok before I did anything did not become loose in the block I still have a couple mags that are tight, so obviously not all uzi mags are to the exact same specs even if they look like it to the naked eye |

Both of mine are working now. One of them likes the 25 round UZI mags and the other likes the 32;s I only have one 9mm upper for now so its no big deal for now.

| Got my 9mm upper in the other day. Ran into issues with the magazines being popped loose when releasing the bolt catch or letting go of the charging handle but I fixed that with some file work on the catch and body. Hand cycled some dummy rounds and it all seems to be good to go. If I wasn't in NY and could use any magazine I wanted instead of being limited to preban uzi magazines I'd definitely go with a Hahn but for now this should do the trick. I'll post a range report when I get to shoot it later this week. |
