I have a complete lower I built, and every part for the upper except BCG and handguards. 16" carbine in .300 AAC. Because of the cartridge and gas tube length I'd like to use an adjustable gas block.

I would really prefer M4 or Magpul MOE handguards, for simplicity sake and budget. Low profile gas blocks are everywhere, but would necessitate free floating the front end. Quad rails look nice but for a hog gun in SW Florida I envision them catching on things all day long.

JP enterprises makes an A2 front sight that's adjustable, which is where I'm leaning. Pricy at $135. I've found only one picatinny gas block for .750 barrels and it's the Doublestar. $65 which is on point but not favorably reviewed, and it's gas block height not receiver height. I'd need a front flip up tall enough or a rider.

Am I missing any options? The owner of JP ent. Confirmed they killed their receiver height picatinny block in .750 due to lack of demand. Are there machinists that convert standard A2 blocks? Other commercial or custom options I've missed?

Unless you're planning on suppressing the rifle, I'd just build the rifle with the items on hand, a fsb with fixed gas and the Magpul MOE handguard.

I neglected to mention I do hope to suppress it at some point.

Its a 300 Blackout with what length gas system on the barrel?

It has a carbine length gas system.

I know you've probably already been told that you should have gone with a pistol length gas system on this...

Good luck.  I think you're going to have to get an adjustable gas block.  I think I've only ever run across one, probably the one you mentioned, in the FSB format.

Maybe you should put some thought into keeping what you have set up for supers, and put together another upper for subsonic loads.  You're going to have to deal with point of impact shift anyway, would make things simpler.

If you're worried about the quad rail catching on stuff then you probably wouldn't be happy toting 24 inches of barrel and suppressor through the woods.

Build this upper economically to shoot supers with a fixed gas block and when you decide to make the leap into shooting suppressed then build another upper with 8-9" pistol gas barrel, free float hand guard (rounded with single rail on top like BCM KMR) MICROMOA 2 position gas block w/plate bored to .067/.093-.105 range.

The finished product will much more compact to carry and, with the pistol gas system and custom gas block, will allow it to cycle in all configurations.

If you are going to wait for your suppressor stamp you might as well get the SBR stamp while your at it.

That was my experience anyway.

This was the configuration of my first 300 BO build. Did not have suppressor at the time but thought I needed adjustable gas block. Only to find out carbine length 300 is typically undergassed for shooting supers. Had to run gas block wide open and use Nemo Arms 300 buffer spring with standard buffer in order to cycle, so eventually switched to standard gas block. Very smooth shooting rifle.

Then built sbr to shoot subs!
