hey guys,

I just read an article that mentioned a round was developed to reduce firearm "recoil and report."  What's the difference?  What is the definition of the term "report," as it pertains to firearms?

Thanks,

In a nutshell: Recoil is how much the firearm pushes back against you when it fires. Report is how much noise it makes.

Flash and noise can be included into "signature".  The term "report" refers exclusively to noise.

Phurb has it, push and noise.

ARs with muzzle devices tend to have WAY more report to those around the shooter than the same caliber out of a gun without a device.  The muzzle device redirects the pressure wave out to the sides instead of sending it all forward.  From down range they sound the same.

Cone-type flash hiders don't redirect anything.

Neither, do the old duck-bills, and duck-bills are pretty good flash hiders.
