With my first build behind me I am proceeding to the next. A suppressed SBR and I'd like to mount the suppressor under that hand guard. I used a Midwest Industries guard on the first and like it. They have a new one out that is larger in diameter to fit suppressors.

My question is: My LEO bud whom has a couple of these items says in order to facilitate cleaning, which will have to be done, a QD mount will be best. Preferably one that  seals well and does not let gas get behind the suppressor. I've looked at several makes, YHM, SilencerCo, Gemtech (which he has and likes), AAC. I'd like to hear from those with an SBR that have suppressors and which one they have and how well it works. Most of all those that mount a suppressor up under the guard and what works for them in regards to ease of removal and cleaning? Is a QD necessary or can the threaded ones work just as well?

Thanks in advance,

First off, your can has to be safe for your barrel length.

And a shorter handguard packs easier. That being said...

I have an AAC 762 SD, and HATE the QD system !
It seems to loosen too easy. They changed the T count 3 times

Perhaps a reliable QD, and I could agree with your plans.

The barrel will be 10.5 and I won't consider anything that is not rated full auto for that length.

Thanks for the input on AAC. It is one I was considering because it was QD. I like the Gemtech design that uses the mount that hooks onto an A2 flash hider and screw to it. I'll probably end up with one of those for my other two rifles. Would be able to move it from one to the other relatively easily. The SBR though, I'd like to have the can under the guard, but can be talked out of it if I hear too much here it's more pain than it's worth.

In 556? Don't do it. It gets hot as hell. I tried it and was extremely unhappy with how hot it got. In pistol or 300blk then I would get a ratchet tension lock style supressor like the dead air or Saker, or a bar style rail and the aero M4 enhanced upper, because the rail can be easily removed and out back on.

The hand guard, right? I generally use a verticle grip, but can see where the can that close to the guard will transfer heat. Anyone else have experience with this problem?

Sorry for being a dolt, but not sure what you mean by a bar style rail. I do like the M4 enhanced upper / handguard combo from Aero though, even have it in M-lok which I like. Thanks for the heads up, just so happens the lower I'm going to use is an Aero Gen 2.

Actually, this Aero combo looks to be what I could use. Signed up for notification, depending on how long that could be.

If you do this, you'll need to go with a suppressor that utilizes a QD system that doesn't have a physical latch that needs to be actuated to remove the suppressor, otherwise you'll be removing the handguard everytime you want to remove the suppressor.

Something like a Silencerco Saker would work well.

FWIW, I think heat will be a big problem as well.

Thanks, Yes, I was looking at an AAC until I realized the latching system on this and a light bulb (dim as it is) went off in my head.

I picked up a brand new, albeit discontinued, Gemtech G5 at a decent price. I like the Gemtech mounting system so I'm hoping this suppressor will meet my needs / expectations. If anyone has used a G5 and cares to post up their pro's / con's it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tucking a 5.56 can unwise if you fire more then 10 rounds a day.

Do not do a 5.56 can under the handguards. As stated before they get way to damn hot. I'm not going to even suggest a can to do it with. I have experience with 5.56 cans and 7.62 cans shooting 300 blk. My brother have a sdn-6 used just fo 300 blk under his handguard and it still gets hot as shit.

I cannot recommend a suppressor for connection with the barrel under a handguard.
Safety (barrel strikes do happen), serviceability (shorter barrels are very hard on suppressors), heat dissipation, and ensuring positive lockup and unlocking.
