I currently have a Windham SRC with what I believe to be a problem. I put a set of cheap flip up sights on it originally, and didnt pay attention to how much adjustment it took to zero the rifle. Fast forward to now, I removed the sights, and replaced with a Nikon P223 in a Burris PEPR mount. When i tried to zero the scope, it took about 12 click right to get the windage close at 25 yds. I followed all mounting instruction to the letter, but am at a loss for what is going on. I figured that I can do one of the following to see where the problem lies.

1. Take everything off,, reinstall the sights, take note of rear sight adjustment and see if the same thing is happening.
2. Mount scope on different AR, zero the scope and see if it puts me back closer to center on windage.

If it is the gun, what could be the problem? The grouping stayed conistent, so I dont the the barrel is loose. Could the barrel to upper receiver not be in alignment?

I could send it back toWindham, but I would like to do as much troubleshooting as I can before taking that step.

So it took 12 clicks. Why is that a problem? Did it attain zero? And did you try shooting it at 50 or 100 yards?

First off 12 clicks is nothing.  3-6 moa depending on your scope.

Also remember that the scope probably didn't ship to you set on the perfect center of the windage range, and there are always going to small variations and inconsistencies between the scope-rings-rail-etc. where tolerances allow some variation, so any observation on how much it took to zero is a wash anyway.  This is why optics have adjustments, to correct for these many variables and zero the POA to POI.

If you got the scope zeroed and it holds good groups, you're all set, nothing to worry about.

Good to know, thanks.

My Nikon M223 in a Larue 104 mount took 2 clicks (1/4in each) to zero a 100 yds. My rifle is square as far as barrel and receivers go. Maybe you can find someone with a QD scope mount and try it on your receiver.
12 clicks is not much. Shoot it at 100 yds.

As previously stated, you're good to go. Lay down some groups with it at 100yds with some decent ammo and see how it groups. I don't know whether your scope has 1/4 moa or 1/2 moa adjustments but, to put this in perspective, 1/4 is the most common and that means that each click only moves your impact 1/4" at 100 yards and considerably less at 25. There is nothing wrong with it taking 12 clicks at 25 yards.

I have moved my scope twice that during a match for wind compensation .
