What optic would you recommend for $150 for an Ar? I was asked this from a local LEO and didn't have an answer. He likes my Eotech but not looking to spend that kind of money. So what say the hive?

What is the intended use of the rifle? If it's a duty weapon I would suggest he find more funds. If it's just for plinking and or range fun then with that budget I would check what Primary Arms and maybe bushnell have to offer.

If you're looking for a red dot, Vortex makes good ones, i.e. Strikefire.

I have a $160 Nikon P-223 3-9x40 on my 16" AR and I can group within 1/2" at 100 yards.

occasionally you can find great deals on demo optics (store display models) from swfa sample list and natchez. I have found some screaming deals that way.

usually the aimpoints and eotechs arent marked down to that range, but i have seen trijicon, leupold prism, and other top of the line reflex sights for around that price point.

if he can wait or isnt in a hurry, thats what i would advise.

otherwise vortex sparc

For budget RDS: Holoson, Lucid, Primary Arms or Vortex.  For duty RDS, tell him to get more funds for an Aimpoint, EOTech or Trijicon.

^This.  I've used a Primary Arms Micro (first one with side emitter) for a couple years now and it has been excellent, although if it's going on his duty carbine I think anyone on here would recommend using the real deal.  Aimpoint PRO's can be had for $350-$375 if you keep an eye out for sales, and I'm sure he could get LEO pricing.

If he is looking for a cheap magnified optic to go on his personal off-duty rifle, Vortex, Redfield, Burris, and Nikon all make scopes in the 2-7 power range that would work and fall around his price-point.  All of those makes should be available for eval in his local sporting goods store as well.

Combo red/green dot with integrated laser that is not gimmicky... look at the Redfield Counterstrike.  Have one on my 300BO pistol and really like it.

They can be had for around your $150 mark

I will be going with the new DI Optical Raven RV2 32mm Red Dot Sight - 2 MOA or the Primary Arms Advanced Series Red Dot Sight with Integrated Green Laser.

You could probably find a lot of help, and similar threads in the optics forum.

I love my Sparc II, pics are on lowest power setting. Got it with a discount from optics plant for like 180 I think.

Don't know if its just the angle but red dot doesn't look centered.
