Appearently i am going to build an AR. Thoughts on this as a start for my first one? I have a local gun shop who is selling Anderson Manufacturing stripped lowers.  I have a Sig M400 and am unsure what i will do with this once it ships and i complete it..

Thoughts?

Not a bad start however, you will find future upgrades difficult with an A2 front sight base.   You may be better served finding a set upi with a low profile gas block and a free float handguard option.

You will want to change it around later and the FSB restricts you.  The front sight base is pressed on and taper pinned which is very difficult to remove and replace.

This is a very good starter set up from DaytonaTactical.

It's not very hard to take off & put back on.  Spin off the flash hider, push out two pins, slide off.  Besides, how else are you going to mount a bayonet?

I am doing it as a budge and a first build. I am ok with the plain Jane set up. I was thinking if I keep it I would put a variable power scope on it as my Sig is a carbine length and this will be a middy.  It may just be built for a buddy who on a budget.

The FSB is not hard to remove. You can still run a FF handguard behind that FSB...I upgraded my Del-ton (taper pinned FSB) to a FF tube in about 40 minutes (most of which was dealing with a FF tube that's finicky to get aligned with the upper rail).

Delton... there you go! Something wrong with my link advice?  Total up with a SS barrel and you under $350.   A noob and a FSP wanting a variable power scope.  good luck.  We should send them right to harbor freight for a grinder, right?

I don't think the OP ever mentioned wanting to remove the FSB or add a longer free float rail. OP, that's a good upper and fine for a simple AR. I have a mid length assembly for one of my ARs with a FSB and wouldn't think of pulling it.
